I have a question about the Galil. How well does the rear sight maintain zero even though the receiver cover is removable? I've never stripped a Galil, and I've only handled one once a long time ago....way before I even garnered an interest in AKs.

Themao, I had one in .308 for a short time and it shot like a dream.  I never had trouble with a wandering sight in the three times I had shot it.  I have had more problems with that in my FAL and I liked the FAL better.

I liked the rifle, but it weighed more than I did, and being short I couldn't hold it up long enough top shoot while standing.  The rifle was a masterpiece with flip up night sights, multiple ambi safeties.  I made a killing on the sale, but I miss that rifle.

Holds it perfectly....In fact my groups with my Galil (.223) are just as good as my M15A2 Carbine.....
I believe them rim of the cover is thicker and fits in tighter than your average AK.
In any case Galil sights for target shooting are definitely better than AK sights.

both the valmet and galil employ fitted covers that exert spring pressure on the receiver to help maintain a consistant zero. the receiver cover button is also tapered to place locating pressure on the cover. when new, and well cared for, the zero is pretty consistant.

as obershutze said, my fal's also have more 'wander' in the factory rear sights that my galil.
