I was wondering if it were possible to build a Galil clone from a romanian ak47 parts kit?

I was thinking about using an ACE side folding stock and galil style pistol grip from ACE LTD, ARM handguard retainer with carry handle, ARM handguard, straight gas tube, gas block/sight, top cover with adjustable aperture sight, and ambi bolt carrier from Vulcan arms.

I could remove the front sight and install all the accessories and add a birdcage flash hider.

What do ya'll think? Anyone try this? If so, how did it turn out?

I have 10 Romanian kits and was just wanting to try something different with one of them.

you would run into 2 probs

first the 90 deg and the 45 drg bas blocks wont line up
you can make it work but you will have an extra hole in your barrel

second you will have 3x what the rifle is worth into it

if you can live with both those go for it :)

I didn't know that about the 90 degree gas block. They showed it as an AK47 replacement part, not an actual Galil part. Maybe its because the Romy wasn't designed for it?

I guess I could always use a bolt on front sight that attaches to the gas block like the one ACE sells.

As for money, I've spent just as much on other AK's so thats no big deal. Like they say, its only money...lol

I might just give it a try, with 10 kits, I have to do something different...lol

Amen, Dvancvann....

That's some fine work there.  I was planning to do that with a second M92 kit I have.  Those M92's are excellent, well made kits by the way if anyone's considering one.  Accurate shooters too.

Give us some insight on the particulars of the builds.  It's not fair to just tease with the photo......

Lets hear some peticulars on your builds.

The rifle on the bottom, where did you get your handguard and retaining plate? Is that from Vulcan? Was there any mods to get it to fit or was it a drop in part? Also the upturned knob on the bolt, did you weld it or buy the bolt with it already modified?

On the upper rifle, did you buy the top cover with the rear sight or did you buy the sight and weld it on? Where did you buy it? How did you modify the front sight? Was it one piece with the gas block or did you buy the sight somewhere else and you welded it on.

If its weld on parts I don't mind, thats what I do for a living. I'm a certified welder. I can mig, stick and tig.

www.vulcanarmament.com minor fitting required .the bolt knob is a lathe turned piece rear site block has to be removed and grooves cut for galil gas tube. the gas tube is the hardest piece to fit.
rear sight is available from www.robertrtg.com piecemeal. front site is a welded on hk91 from www,robertrtg.com. rear site is silver soldered on. you must order a base as well as a sight.
both rifles have galil ambi safety assys . these parts are getting hard to find. gun parts corp still carries some of the but the right hand lever will have to be modified from an ak part by adding another shaft for the galil link.
feel free to email  or pm or post here  if you need any other advice

How did you set up the folding stocks?  Every "Galil style" folding stock for the AK has a big fugly block added on.  Yours look great!

edit:  I figured it out, "AK Internal Receiver Block" from ACE Ltd.... very cool
