Need to drill Tapco gas piston. I know it's stainless steel. Which is the best drill bit to get? TIA

A Sears Craftsman Cobalt bit works well for me.

You can go to any hardware store and buy a cobolt drill bit.  I just got mine at Ace hardware.  You may have trouble finding a metric size and for that you may have to go to your local machine supply store.

Just take your replacement pin and stick it in a drill guage to determine what standard bit is the right size, it doesn't have to be a metric bit, just the right size standard one.

The two cobalt bits that have worked well for me are the 5/32" and the 11/64". I bought a 3/16" but have yet to use it!. The 5/32 is used on the front trunion and trigger guard, the 11/64 on the rear stock block. I did use a 3/16 to drill out the pin on the one gas piston I replaced.

I've used both TiN coated and HSS, both from HF.  They all worked fine for me.  Just go slow, use lube, get a good center punch to start, and you should be set.  You WILL break a bit if you go too fast and lean on the drill too much.  Ask me know I know :D

Cause you have a neat little pile of broken bits that you're saving because you never know when you'll need to fashion a replacement or oversized pin for a sight or gas block?
