AKM gas tube aren't made for those tension springs, only the AK-74's and the AK-100 series of rifles. In order for it to stay in place the gas tube has to have a little extended tab on the top of the tube that AKM tubes lack. I've modified them before to work on AKSU's but I'm not sure the same mod would work on an AKM due to large caming surface on the tube which might not hold the spring on. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/AEnemaBay/Avtomat%20Kalashnikova/Rattle%20Fix/IMG_4916Large.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/AEnemaBay/Avtomat%20Kalashnikova/Rattle%20Fix/IMG_4909Large.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/AEnemaBay/Avtomat%20Kalashnikova/Rattle%20Fix/IMG_4913Large.jpg Nice mod Aenemabay. I'm going to do this on my SLR-106UR. The gas tube rattles a little. |

The Gas tube on one of my AKM's is annoyingly loose so i figured the spring might help a little. I would find a virgin tube (Polish comes to mind) and fit it to your gun. While the front and back play can be adjusted by pressing the gas block closer the vertical and horizontal play is determined by the fit of the locking lever to the tube's caming surface. Too steep of surface will allow the lever to lock easily but will let the tube rattle while too shallow and the lever will be too hard to close or not at all, but the tube will be rock solid. That's why it's so important to maintain the angle of the caming surface when you fit a gas tube. |

You could try this?

While I don't recommend the hammering method he showed he did confirm that the AK-74 tension spring will work with an AKM tube. |
