| What kind of accuracy should I expect from an AK at 100yds? Given that all shots are rested and using standard issue iron sights. I am just looking for a general yardstick to measure the proformance of my new AK. |
I have to disagree...partly. There are a lot of kits that come in in horrible shape, pitted bores, jacked up barrels, etc. They shoot like crap. However, the many that I have had have been pretty good. I have an AMD pistol kit that I can consistently hit steel plates at 60 yards shooting with a shoulder strap (no stock, no bench rest...). I'll admit I have not properly papered my AKs and found out exactly where the accuracy is, mostly cause it's so much fun to blast away...but I'll say that in a pinch, I'd feel confident that I could lay down some decent groups. |

Typically, with someone who is familiar with the AK and is using a halfway decent rifle with halfway decent ammo........ 2"-5" is generally accepted norms for most 7.62x39mm AK's. It's been my experience that the cold hammer forged barrels used in the Bulgarian AK's and the non chrome lined Yugoslavian barrels tend to produce the best accuracy potential. Welcome to the board!  Here's the deal. Even a WASR with canted front sights will easily shoot within the diameter of a small paper plate at 100 yards as long as you adjust the sights correctly and control a steady hand. ALL AK MODELS WILL DO AT LEAST THIS..... That's why they are what they are...... |

Thanks for all the input. I now have my yardstick. Looks like my AK is average given my poor vision using the as issued sighting set up. With out trying to hard and just cranking of a mag from a rest it will put all the rounds into a six inch high by six inch wide group at 100 yds. This is my first AK and I am really getting a kick out of it. I thought that 1600 rounds of ammo would last me for quite a while. Wrong. I will be ordering more soon. I will make up some steel swingers to blast away at. Should be fun. Oh, yes. Thanks for the welcome to the board. I didnt pick my user name from the movie but I do remember it. The name is connected to the type of iron horse I ride. |
