I have a potentially stupid question...I am wanting to buy a kit to build and am very new to AKs but am excited about learning. The question is: Which parts (in addition to the kit) do I need to buy in order to complete a build? Also, if the original receiver is "cut out" what does it require to remove this portion and does the original markings (ie. Romanian , Russian, etc) remain on a portion of the re-built gun or are these removed with the new receiver?

you will need to buy some us made parts, probably the trigger group and gas piston

you will also need tools to do the rivets, etc

are you using a reciever flat or a finished reciever from an FFL? eta: the new reciever should have all the required markings

Go to the "build it yourself" section and start reading.  That's what I did before I built my Romy-G screw build.  Plenty of info there.  Including how to de-mill your kit (remove the old rivets from your trunnions, trigger guard, etc.).  The orig. ser.# will remain on the front left side of the trunnion.

With my screw build:

Romy-G Kit
NDS-3 Receiver
US Pistol Grip (later I switched to a US mag part to use Orig. PG)
Tapco G2 single hook FCG
FCG retaining plate
US slant Brake
Tapco Screw Kit
Brownells Gun Kote (Only did the receiver and receiver cover)
Proper taps ordered from Brownells
