I ordered a Izhmash Molot style S-12 grip from Ronin's Grips, went to install it, and noticed that it's not seating firmly against the receiver and trigger guard.

The trigger guard is a Carolina Shooters Supply bolt on trigger guard I installed back when I converted the shotgun to pistol grip configuration.

The SAW grip fit perfectly, but this Molot grip is not.
First, this is what the grip looks like when it's simply placed on the gun, without putting the screw in - notice it seats fine:

Now, this is what the grip looks like after the allen screw has been firmly tightenened - notice how the grip is resting way off the receiver, despite being tightened with a screw:

I would need to see the nut and screw you are using to know why it's not tightening up...Only getting half the story here.

I think I actually figured out the problem.

I think it's running out of thread - thinking a washer may fix the problem.

Your S12 doesn't have a hole for the grip nut in the receiver, which is why those triggerguards have the threaded stud built in. Your bolt is for a regular grip nut which is intended to go inside the receiver and stick out through the nut hole. That means the bolt is too long for the application.
Fixes: Make a hole in the receiver for bolt clearance, shorten the bolt, or just buy a shorter bolt.
