| I took my WASR-10 to the range today and after shooting 20 rounds, taking a break then shooting 20 more rounds, the barrel was REALLY hot. This is only the second time I've used it but it seemed really hot last time also. Is this normal for these guns or could I have a problem? (After 20 more rounds I couldn't touch the barrel and the hand guards were even getting warm.) |

I changed to a ventillated composite hand guard, no glowing of the bbl at night, but she gets hot. Got a minor burn once, didn't even blister. I notched my saftey lever to lock the bolt open which also aids in cooling much faster. Remember, with most heat treated metals, you don't want to get them red hot too much or they become weak. I would not get them any warmer than "blue hot". JMHO |

Depending on the steel composition, past a certain temperature (which could be lower than you think) you destroy the properties of that certain alloy. While not being dangerous in every case (I believe 4140 becomes VERY brittle after reaching 1100 degrees) you could cause an annealing of the metal , making it softer and causing increased wear. Oh hell, life's short do it anyway! ___________________________________________________________ Dirty deeds.....done dirt cheap

| When i first got mine a few months ago. Me and my dad went out to the range. After 60 rouns i was like this thing is hot. He reaches over, grabs the barrell and all i hear is sizzle. Im like AHAHAHA. It left a scare all the way across his palm. I was like "Dont touch Tha.." i didnt get that out before he had already grabbed it. |
