I got a box of 500 HSM rounds fom the local gunshow a couple weeks ago and just got my AK today. I went to load the rounds, and was met with an unpleasant surprise. The bullet's nose is too long for the magazine. Most of the people I talked to at the range said it was probably the ammo, and I am going to pick up another box tomorrow to make sure it is the ammo. Anyone have this happen before? Will I be tempting fate if I shave off a little of the nose? What should I do?

Are they the heavy OTM rounds, like the 77 grainers?  They gotta be because they have a longer OAL.

If so I guess you will have to dremel some M4 feed ramps into your AK.

For real though if they won't fit into the mags I sure wouldn't be shaving them.  Either shoot them in an AR (if you have one) or sell or trade them.  That is a real bummer.

I just looked at the box and it says 123 grains. If 77 is too much...I'm screwed

I'm sorry, for some reason I thought you were talking about 5.56 ammo.

Weight is fine, but length is wrong for sure if they do not fit the mag. I'd invite the mfg to refund/replace.

I talked to some guys today and they said that they didnt think that the seller would replace them. But they also said that I would be able to shave the excess off the tip. So whats my best bet, resell them?

Any warranty may be with the mfg ultimately instead of the dealer, but invite them to take it back or you wont be back to them. Too long for the mag is just Fn wrong.

or find a reloader with a bullet puller and scale to see if they at least got the right round in the case

Is this their steel cased cartridge, or is it brass cased?

steel, but I'm probably going to sell it because my usual range doesnt allow steel cases

Just curious, but does it look like they put any type of protective coating on the steel case like Wolf, G. Tiger or the others do?

Find a new range.

Have HSM replace your ammo, too.

I'd contact HSM, they have always been pretty helpful, though I've never had a problem like that before either.
