The upper and lower handguards on my Yugo M70 are rough and it looks like there is no finish. Is this the way they are when they were isssued?

I don`t want my Yugo looking like a Wasr....

That is correct, smooth to semi-smooth with no finish other than cosmoline or a grease type protectant.

The factory wood is birch which is native to The Yugolasv Federation, not teak wherever that rumor got started....they use Linseed oil as a preservative. It's the same wood as used on the Finnish Mosin Nagants!

Now everyone reading this is going by darn he's right.  Hope this helps.

I got a replacement set from CAI.  The top wood has a very waxy feel to it (And no, it's not cosmoline.) while the lower has a rough feel.  Will the lineseed oil have the waxy feel.
