Coming in on this late in the game as I just got my Yugo underfolder today.

Tapco trigger and Zavasta marked.

Now I see the plastic handguards melt.

Has anyone tried the other plastic handguards or the aluminium UTG guards---or will they even fit?

What's the cost and wait time on Ironwood??  Their website sucks---thats why I'm asking.

Thanks.

Plastic hanguards only melt if you really try to melt them.

Centerfire Systems has the Yugo wood handguards

Ironwood Designs' set is about $80 but you have to have the metal ferul that comes on the original wood lower.  Here is my Ironwood set:

Can't understand the issues with the plastic HGs, I have no probs, but thenm I shoot 30, set it down, shoot 30 from WASR, thenreload and back to the Yugo. So I never do back - back mag "dumps".

Anyway, IIRC; Ironwood was $85.00 for just the 2 front HGs. There were at least 2 others also doing wood for the Yugo's, IIRC, $50.00 and up.

Where would I find a ferul to go with the Ironwood guards? Since I have the plastic ones now.

Any experience with the Tapco plastic or UTG guards??

Saw that pic in another thread I think ... those look pretty sweet.

Is that tung oil or just BLO?

EDIT: For many months I kept a thread called "Please post pics HERE if your Century handguards melted." I bumped it every couple weeks to keep it afloat and I never got any pics the whole time. The ones posted recently were the first I have ever seen.

So the melting thing must not happen easily, I believe.

That said, if I had plastic HG's I'd still go sell blood (or sperm?) twice a week if I had to to get some wood. It's beautiful, for one thing, and two: I believe in zombies and I don't want my HG's getting soft on me when they invade.

Tapco, CAA, UTG, etc, will not fit Yugos. Yugos have larger/longer wood. Only aftermarket railed units that fit Yugos are from Ultimak. IIRC

It's just BLO.  Sanded lightly with 250 grit, hit again with 0000 steel wool, a little minwax golden pecan stain and boiled linseed oil.
