| Geting ready to install a new virgin yugo barrel and had some questions concerning headspace. Should I use SAAMI or CIP spec. guages? I do shoot both reloads and surplus. If I set using CIP guages Would I still be able to shoot reloads due to using SAMMI spec reloading dies? Also I am building a few Romys and I am worried that I may get inaccurate results using SAAMI. Maybe I am just being too worried about it? Any insight would be very much appreciated. |

I don't know much about reloading, but when I was reading up on headspace gauge (probalby at brownells.com) I remember it saying to always use the same standard for each gage (i.e. SAAMI field gauge, SAAMI go gauge, SAAMI no-go gauge). This had to do with tolerances ranges. I would suspect this would stay true with reloading dies. so my recommendation would be to go with the SAAMI to stay consistant with your reload dies. With that said: 1)Reloading 7.62x39? is it really worth it? 2) as long as the serial numbers match I don't know why you would be that concerned with the SAAMI gauges giving inaccurate results. |
