I haven't seen much info on heat treating a new reciever, do you need to heat treat the whole reciever? or just the major Trigger, Hammer holes? we have a heat oven at work, but i was told that it would probably warp the hell out of the reciever..... any tips or suggestions... thanks Nails |

From what I understand that only the fire group holes are heat treated. However Iwould say from my experience that it normally would not be an issue. If one thinks it is, just locktite the pins to prevent their rotation. The problem would be if they egged out the hole during the life time of the receiver. The thinner gauge ones would most likely be the ones causing the problem. Lyn |
| My receiver from Global Trades is advertised as being heat treated; rails also. If your receiver isn't, I would do the whole receiver, especially if you have access to an oven. Temperature is critical, so care must be exercised. Too much hardness and not enough tempering will be disasterous, as the receiver can crack or even shatter. |

Here are some good threads on heat treating. www.gunco.net/forums/showthread.php?t=704&highlight=heat+treat www.gunco.net/forums/showthread.php?t=861&highlight=heat+treat |
| For what it's worth I have some receiver stubs from some kits and they are soft (about the same as the untreated blanks) and don't seem to be heat treated other than around the FCG holes. Hard to tell since most of the holes were cut away during the demill process. |
Its not rotation that wears them its the shock of operation that deforms them. |
