So I've been researching for months now and have come up with three ak's that I am interested in.
1) Russian RAK AK47, (Atlantic) I believe is the same as Koraynovich Arms (east coast firearms) Pros -Russian made receiver -red furniture -g2 fire control -all new parts cons -cost 2) Arsenal SGL 21-61 pros -It's an arsenal -known accurate -ak74 style muzzle break -all new parts cons -I don't like poly furniture -cost 3) Wasr 10 pros -cheap -wood furniture cons -cheap -canted sights -finish -cheap! -mag wobble I chose the RAK because this is what I think an ak should look like, the arsenal for their reputation, the wasr because sometimes I just get so fed up trying to decide! Please help me decide! |

We really need a "First AK - New to AK - What AK - Buying Advice" sticky. No need, its not your fault there is no FAQ/Sticky. But this question is asked almost 3 times a day. As mentioned - why do you want an AK and what do you expect of it? With the ever increasing price of the WASR, I fail to see its value. A USED Chinese or Arsenal is maybe $100 more and a far superior rifle. Also, remember stocks are inexpensive and easy to swap, so don't get hung up on something that has a style you like (poly, rails, fancy wood) and over pay. Beware wood is easy to refinish and there are tons of poly stock kits out there. |

The RAK and Arsenal are basically the same gun with just cosmetic differences. If you like the look of the RAK better and are willing to spend the extra $150 for it, then that's what you should buy.
The WASR will probably be just fine from a function standpoint, but it sounds like it's not really what you want. There's no reason to buy something you don't really like. |

They are both SAIGA conversions correct? |

| okay so I've looked at several videos and walkthroughs on converting a Saiga but no one mentions how to replace the handgouards? I figure for about $400 less I could do the conversion and achieve the same look plus have bragging rights of actually doing the conversion! |

The easiest way to put AK hanguards on a Saiga, is using a bolt-on retainer from Dinzagarms. The Saiga gas tube can be replaced with a standard AK one. |
| I found an article on how to replace the handguard and FSB and now I understand why the RAK is so expensive. The conversion to a pistol grip is fairly straightforward and I think would be relatively easy but re fitting a new gas block and FSB is something I would not be comfortable doing. As far as the bolt on retainer goes I don't think I would be comfortable with that methods durability. Also the barrels on the Saiga are not threaded requiring a smith to do properly. All this work is done and looks clean on the RAK. I think I've finally decided to go with this gun. |

iam in the spot as original poster ,but I just started researching. what is the difference between the a k47 & the ak 74?I rally like that russian one with the red wood as well .but i would also like an accurate one .well as accurate as they can get anyways AK47 shoots 762x39, AK74 shoots 545x39 If you want better accuracy, go with the AK74. |
