| Well as always thanks for looking. Im very new to AKs. I owned a WASR-10 for a couple of months, but thats it. So needless to say I really dont know what to look for. So that brings me to the point of this thread. Im looking for a good AK kit. What are the better ones out there? Stock type or caliber doesn't matter. Thanks |
Polish kits are getting hard to come by these days, and if anyone has them they are commanding around $300.00 Romanian kits are still out there |
Out of those 3, the rommy, polish, and the AMMS, which is the better buy as far as quality is concerned? Price not being a factor. |
Only my opinion, but best bang for the buck is always romy...and it's also a good idea if it's your first since they are still inexpensive builds...but those AMMS kits are looking really nice too...I should have 2 by the end of the week and other reports are that they are really good kits. Depends on if you want an underfolder too...the AMMS kits are some of the least expensive underfolders out there right now. I know it's cliche by now, but you should really "get both" or as many as you would like...they aren't getting any easier to find that's for sure |
That is not what those of us who have not gotten our kits wanted to hear right now!![]()

All of the Polish kits that I have sen have been excellent. |
Polish kits (those in excellent or like new condition) are the best there is. There is a reason why they cost $100.00 more than Hungarian kits. The only part that I do not like (Polish kits) is the stamped and welded rear trunnion. No big deal. It can be replaced with one made of solid steel. Romy kits are great too, especially those in like new condition. Hungarian kits are a hit or miss, you never know what you'll get. |
