does anyone know of any legal issues with someone constructing their own "sb47-ish" arm brace? Or, is the SB47 brace particularly licensed to be legally used as a "brace"?

The ATF is vague on what an arm brace actually is, yet very specific on what a short barreled rifle is. I believe it would be very easy to accidentally build what could be classified a stock, potentially landing yourself in hot water.
I think the forum will unanimously agree with me.

Its not "licensed" per say, but it is specifically described in the now famous approval letter.
No other arm brace would be considered "ATF Approved" (whatever that's worth), without going through the process to get approval just like Sig had to do.
ETA:
Watch, when Sig releases their gen2 arm brace next month, they will probably have to go through the same process all over again.

Yep, the ATF would put you in jail.

That is exceedingly unlikely.  A lot of very unlikely things would need to happen before he would even be charged.  Even then it is highly doubtful he'd go to jail unless he has prior convictions or there were extenuating circumstances (drugs, other crimes, etc.).  I'm not saying building a brace at home is a good idea, it most certainly is not.

You might just lose your gun, car, house, etc.  Probably no jail time, though.

The chinese will probably be knocking these out at $10 a pop soon.
