Gentlemen,
I got sick in the beginning of Feb. and was following the EE and recall a couple of Saigas in 7.62x39 with mag dimples and/or X, Y, markings being offered for $1000. Well my sickness got  worse and I wound up in the hospital for nearly a month (about a third of that time in a drug induced coma the hospital put me in), so I was completely out of touch with the outside world.

I get back and start checking the EE and rifles are being offered at $1400! Certainly not every one but enough for me to see the trend clearly. Now the EE usually had sane prices as the members here alert one another if something is priced insanely. Gunbroker has always been all over the place IMHO, things priced ridiculously high or sometimes at a real bargain.

There are a lot of various forces making it a very crazy time for the AK enthusiast. You have guys selling collections to try and save their homes with the housing market collapse or selling off a few just because the economy is rough on damn near everyone right now. Ammo prices aren't coming down. Its hard to believe its all going to the war especially when its calibers that aren't in use in the sandbox. The BATFE chips away at things by instituting goofy ass crap like the barrel ban. Dyed in the wool anti gun fanatics continue thier quest to disarm us. Also a lot of new guys come on board and "panic buy" not wanting to miss out on what they feel might be their last chance to own an AK platform rifle. These things and others I have probably not even thought of make it a crazy time. And I have been thinking about it.

So I am asking you to pull out your crystal balls or make a WAG and predict where things will be in 5-10 years. Will it be a rich mans' hobby like English sportscars became? Will the Constitution be changed or interpreted by the Supreme Court to disarm us? Will you have to belong to a gun club that costs a few grand a year(isn't there something like that in Australia?)?

Notice I don't see anything particularly positive. No, "FREE FIREARM OF YOUR CHOICE WHEN YOU REGISTER TO VOTE!!! REGISTER TODAY!!!" or "In a surprising reversal of long standing trends the President today signed a bill allowing any American citizen who passes the necessary criminal and mental health checks, the right to own any firearm they choose regardless of its length or ability to fire automatically. Exempt from the bill were mortar rounds, rocket propelled and nuclear devices. The bill reverses a continued tightening of gun laws started in the "Age of Gangsters". Beltway insiders say the bill has its roots in the Supreme Courts ruling that allowed citizens living in the District of Columbia to own and keep firearms..."

OK so I am rambling. Please give it your best shot. Where do your see things in 5-10 years? What's your scenario?
Cheers,

This year the worker bees were given a clear choice between multiple candidates of various political stripes who are dedicated to increasing their subjection to the nanny state and one candidate dedicated to returning them to the status of citizens.

Overwhelmingly, the worker bees chose those who are statists.
Subjects of the nanny state are not armed, that right is reserved to citizens.

I see little reason for optimisim.

I am on the other side of this one.  I think the congress was stung so badly last time, that they are VERY cautious about having their heads handed to them again.  There are more black rifle owners, more concealed carry permits, more firearm owners now than ever before.  The Supreme Court is (I think) standing on the brink of a major decision in our favor.   I see much reason for optimism.

HOWEVER, I could be totally wrong

I also don't see any ban in the near future BUT I do see them going to this traceable ammo laws.  Several states have bills that haven't passed yet to do this.

When they do that you will have 2-3 years to use up your stockpile of ammo or risk having unregistered ammo and go to jail.

That way they slowly choke off the food to your stuff and they become clubs.

This would mean something like a 5.45x39 not having ANY ammo since no US makers produce it and if they had to go to the new traceable bullets they probably won't bother with that round just as ONE example, there are many.

No more re-loading at home unless they sold traceable bullets to the home loader.  Unless you buy for example traceable 223 ammo pull the bullets and put them in your 5.45x39 cases after resizing the pulled bullets.  Expensive at the VERY least.
