....the barrel from a Yugo parts kit?  Received my underfolder kit from Apex and the bore was dark with residue.  I've been scrubbing for two days now and the patches are still coming out pretty dark.  CLP, bore scrubber, foaming bore cleaner overnight, etc.

Although I didn't stick with it for 2 days, I ran into the same thing with my milled M70 kit.  I scrubbed the bore very well, and once it was visually clean I called it good.  I wasn't going to wait for a clean patch.

I have a kit on the way as we speak and plan to use a combination of Break Free Powder Blast, Break Free Foaming Bore Cleaner, and Barnes CR-10 which is a very potent solvent.

It took almost two weeks of waiting after my order was placed before I called to check in on it and apparently there was some mixup causing a delay and they shipped it once I got off of the phone with them. As a plus, the woman on the phone told me that they would be selecting a good looking (overall and bore condition) kit for my inconvenience.

It will arrive Wednesday and I will probably post pics that night.

Good luck with your clean up!

Make yourself an electric bore cleaner.  They work wonders on surplus bores.

Nice kit!  I think running patches through it over and over is a futile activity.  You'll probably never get it perfectly clean unless you go the route of solvents, etc.  Truly, almost forty years of use/abuse with them and a good maintenance program virtually non-existant during the latter part of the rifle's life is going to take a toll on your cleaning patch funds.

I'd say the best advice in my opinion is just what the guys said - clean as best you can and shoot the rest of the old stuff out of it over time.
