| Ok I know this has been talked about a lot, but I must be bad at the searching. From what I remeber is to zero an AK-47 (I have a WASR) I place a target out to 25M and set rear sight to 1 which is 100m. I shoot so POA is POI. Then I can test and verify or fine tune at 100m with rear sight still on 1. Now when I have it sighted in do I leave the rear sight on 1, or do I slide it all the way back to the battle setting? |

Once you have it sighted in at 100 you can slide your sight back to the battle setting and you should be able to hit roughly man sized targets to about 300meters/yards. I think ze Russsians were taught to aim at the stomach area and thus be able to hit a man at any length out to 300.
I usually just leave it at the 1 setting and practice holding over or under while learning to estimate distances at which my targets are at. YMMV Also the type of target you use at 100 can make sighting in your rifle easier or harder....

That's what I do also, zero at 100m on 1 and leave it there for shooting 0-300m The battlesight setting is useful and there for a reason but I'm comfortable using hold over's to about 300-350m with my 74's Good info on zeroing is here http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=64&t=135968&light=zero Z |

That's really cool but it says "turns" left or right. What sight pusher is it designed to be used with? The thread pitch would determine the number of "turns". |

I have no clue. I just remember seeing the target when this thread came up.

I've got an SGL-31 on order hoping to be here next week. Can anyone give me an idea if zeroing at 100m what 5.45x39 may do at 25m?
I saw this data on the 5.45x39 and it looks like with a 100m zero it would be 4cm (about 1 1/2") low at 25m. Does that sound about right? I've read several different articles on zeroing the AK and just curious if this might be close. |

Alright thanks all for this info. So it looks like I have the zero steps down, but I'm still hung up with what to set it after zero. The rifle range I go to is max 200 yards, but I mostly shoot at the 100 or 50. So would it be best to leave it on the 1 or the battle setting? I'm sorry for the new be questions. I would have to say the 1 obvious for the 100m, but what would be the best when shooting at the 50m?
According to what others said that leaving it at the 1 POI will be higher than POA at shorter ranges, leaving it on the 1 would be best because of less hold under. If I had at battle setting I would have to do more of a hold under because it will be shooting higher? Thanks rightwing for the target will use to help with the zero process. |

Leaving the sight on 1 will produce hits on any reasonable sized target at ranges less than 100m without worrying about the difference in POA and POI. Using the battle sight setting would require you to hold under at ANY range shorter than 300m if the target is smaller than a man's torso. |
