Just one week ago I was sitting at Hooters with some of the guys from the Ill hometown forum talking about AKs...and now I went out and bought one.   It's an AK 74 W88 Tantal from Interarms.

Here a pic of the new toy...

I do have a question, I'm trying to put on a CAA 6 position collapsable stock and am running into some difficulty.  I tried to follow Bargunners advice in another thread, but the pins don't seem to want to come out and i'm not really excited about trying to force them.  I banged pretty hard with a punch and they didn't seem to want to move.  Here's some pics.

Here is how the folder is currently attached:

The new stock end that I want to attach:

The pins that don't want to come out...

Am I missing something?  Is it possible that the pins are not meant to come out on the interarms rifles?

Thanks

Yes.
You're  punching on the rivets.

You're crushing your rivet heads.

If it's anything like an like an East German folder.

The stock is removed by unscrewing the screw in your second picture then, unscrewing your pistol grip.

From the inside of the receiver press the lever down with your thumb or a flat head screwdriver,  then wedge a flat head screw driver right behind it to pull it out.

Once the lever is pulled out, the nut for the pistols grip's screw can be removed.

Now all you have to do is pull the stock out and your new one will slide in and attach with the same screw holes.

I can't believe Interarms only put 1 screw on your stock. Should be 2 of them. See the countersunk hole in front of the slotted screw? It's an easy swap and you shouldn't have to remove the pistol grip to do it.

The stock's only drilled for one screw and the PG nut hold the bottom. The Polish stocks are different than the Romies and Germans.

but why take a perfectly nice gun and degrade it by addin the CAA stock??..AKs just arent meant for that stuff like that...just my opinion i guess.  you have a nice gun, id leave it the way it is.

where did you purchase yours from.  I am looking for one right now but do not want to get one from Century.  I want the interarms but from Atlantic there is a 6-8 week wait right now.  Thanks, RG

PhreakMode's pix shows the two pins that need to be driven out, but it looks like they're not installed in your rifle from what I can see in your second picture. Start by removing the pistol grip and nut which is explained in full detail by Mein-Teil, remove the one screw on the back of the tang. If there are pins installed (but it doesn't look like it) you'll have to punch them out and the folder should come right out.

Hey all,
thanks for the help and suggestions.
Rundm, I got the rifle from Rguns.
Mein-Teil, you were right.  I had to take out both screws.  It was still REALLY hard to initially get it started moving out.  Once I got enought room to slide in a screw driver, it came out really easy.  Here's pics for any others like me that might need assistance.

Original folder stock coming out

Original Stock out

New stock going in

Finished product

Took it shooting today and it was GREAT! I tried to orignial folder stock.  I like the new one much better.  Put about 120 rounds through it.  It was a blast!

Thanks again.

Looks like the Tantal only has an upper tang?

If that's the case, could you mount the Tantal folder onto an SLR-95, assuming requisite number of American parts otherwise?

James...
No idea.  It does only have the one tang, but there is an additional hole where the screw for the pistol grip goes through.

Semper Fi...
I try to be an equal opportunity distriubter of ammo....  I like to make sure no part of the target feels left out!

Well, For me it will be because 1) The Folding Stock is very uncomfortable.  2) The folding stock is too short.   3) A 6-position adjustable stock will allow my wife, and myself to shoot it comfortably.

AK's were designed with 2 intention's in mind.  1) Work as a semi-accurate sub-machine gun shooting Pistol size bullets.    2) Work under conditions that most firearms would otherwise fail.

No matter what you do to the looks and feel of an AK.  It will still perform those 2 Functions FLAWLESSLY!
