I really doubted how well an ak would shoot. I've had a lot of guys tell me they are not that accurate before I owned one. I had a guy in a Las Vegas shooting range say there junk that break down constantly, and he works around them daily. I just wanted one just very shortly after all the craziness started, thinking that it would be worth handing down or just having someday while I still could. I bought a milled mak 90 which I am de-banning over time. I actually purchased it thinking "well its no ar but will be fun" and really didin't expect much except a beater rifle to be honest. I shot some tula for sight in and got what I thought was waaay better results then expected, but not "great". The next time I shot some more... cans and clay pigeons etc, testing the accuracy of the rear leaf sight adjustment (i think its called leaf sight).. then wow "hey some smart bastard actually made this adjustment work as its suppose to" ... Then went out one more day to play a while back and shot some newly aquired Golden Tiger.... until this time it was only "shoots better then I thought". I had to re-zero it a little better that day cause I realized the groups were much tighter and missing targets in the same spot. Re-zeroed and did the same type of plinking at different distances. I think I set up like 8-10 targets all differnt distances. Some old clay pigeons, cans, etc. Long story short I didn't miss anything. Its pretty hard to wipe the smile off my face after that. All targets were at least 4" round and minimum of 50 yards, alot were set up about 100 yards away, and a couple even farther. I really couldn't believe it after I headed home. I didn't miss any of them from a rest. I still in a lot of ways enjoy shooting the AR the best, but I cant say enough about this rifle, I was really just blown away, and I was terribly mistaken, and have been having a blast w/ it. Im very happy with my purchase. Now I find myself really polishing in when I get home as before I just kind of ....cleaned it |

imagine that....Now try a 5.45 and really smile. ETA: my 1st rifle was a MAK90, so I started off on it. Been through a lot of different systems, but still have a safe full of AKs. Heh, my first AK was also a MAK90. Once I bought the SLR105, I sold all of my 7.62 AK's and never looked back! |

You're gonna look back if they ever ban ammo imports
That's sorta ignorant 7.62 packs a helluva punch! I enjoy 5.45 but it can't knock down brick walls like my 7.62 can to the poster: OF COURSE AKS are accurate- it's the SHOOTER that isn't! I thought that has been proven? AKS have been filling graves for DECADES now. It must be doing something right! BATTLE EFFECTIVE. AS LONG AS I CAN PUT A BULLET IN A MAN'S CHEST UP TO 300 YDS WITH MY AK I AM HAPPY. IF I WANT BETTER THAN THAT I'LL BRING OUT MY .308 |

congrats on seeing the light
wife and i were at the range yesterday shooting and she routinely shoots our SGL21 7.62 @ 2MOA at 100m with iron sights. OHHHHHh to have 22 year old perfect vision. Alas i am 32 and have fuck all for eye sight, but at 100m i can keep all rounds fired from off hand on a 12x12 square and off the bench shoot about 4MOA. i just have to aim at the center of the fuzzy area
fact is a well made and maintained ak will hit what you are aiming at just as well as other rifles. enjoy the new toy. |

Yep. they don't get the love they should My eyesight's gone out the crapper but with a 1-4X scope, most of my AK's will come pretty dang close to AR's with cheap ammo and loose nuts behind the triggers Funny, I got a buncha 7.62 AK's......I had a 5.45 and sold it (because it was an in-accurate POS, long story). I got another '74...Y'know I'd never trade off my 7.62's for it. It's nice, it's okay.....can't compare to the feel and impact of a .30 caliber round |

I had a guy in a Las Vegas shooting range say there junk that break down constantly, and he works around them daily. Is this similar to your beginings? The guy at the Las Vegas shooting range was obviously a F**k Tard. My guess would be that he's an ex-military AR junkie. Many classic 1911 guys talk this way about Glocks. I got into Kalashnikovs about 10-12 years ago after learning about their reliability and how prolific they were. After my 1st purchase, I was hooked. I've now sold more varients than you will probably ever own, and can say with conviction that they are very reliable and have more than enough "practical" accuracy. To me, this means torso shots on man-size targets out to 300 yds. When you get into AK-74's, your range and accuracy increases by about 100-200 yds, which is why many like to scope them with 4x or 6x scopes. There is a great deal of information here, as well as on the AK Forum. Happy reading...!!! |
