With the exception of the M76, Century generally does a good job on the Yugos. They don't actually assemble them, they are contracted out. The bulged/RPK front trunnion is a dead giveaway that that is indeed a 1.6mm receiver. A good source for the proper sling: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Detail.aspx?pid=811590&filter=sks+sling&catid=0 Maybe consider a Yugo pistol grip and some wood handguards as well. |

All of those items are on my to do list. I had an early CAI Galil and I can tell you a different group of people assembled this rifle, either that or they paid the power bill and turned the lights on in the factory. Where is a good source for the pistol grip and the wood? Thank you for the link for the sling. |

Pistol grips: Apex - Used with some mileage on them. Velocity - New/unissued. Surplus wood: Apex Two Rivers New wood: Ironwood Designs Apex offers convenient one stop shopping, but I've done business with all four vendors and they are good to go. |

I was looking at the used surplus wood, but the new wood with the bulge looks REALLY good. The only thing is while I am not trying to do a BFPU I would like to keep it close to the original design. I do believe that AKs are best served when kept as an AK and not made into an AR15. Everyone has their preferences and opinions so don't take that as a hit against anyone, just my preference for AKs |

I agree on your philosophy though in that an Ak...is an Ak.. I have two tactical type AR's but the 2 Ak's I own: ( preban Mitchell Arms Yugo and an Arsenal RPK in 7,62) are plain Jane. Not that it's wrong to dress an AK up...just not right for me. |

The things can damn near be made with bar stock, car fenders, a hammer, anvil, and a camp fire. If I go to my AK it means I need something absolutely rugged. Outside of a T1 Aimpoint, adding an optic kind of makes it less effective at its purpose. |
