What exactly do the internals look like?

Pictures would be great!

Also.  Is the Norinco Hunter receivers the same as a Galils?  Or ar ethe only similar on the outside?

Pretty much like the internals of an AK.

I have never understood why anyone would think a Norinco Hunter looks like a galil. Does this look like a norinco hunter

The receiver looks very much like one.  And since the Galil is very closely related to the AK why would it be such a stretch to think the Norinco hunter receiver would be so dramatically different?  And I do believe there are Norinco hunters with milled receivers.

Using that logic, a romak or any AK can be turned into a Galil but is still won't be one.

Well from what I understand they are very similar....are they not.  They may not be the same in name...but in function I think they are very close.

I was not going to respond to this thread when I 1st saw it but I'm having a real hard time understanding this thread. For one.... Real Galils aren't even the same 7.62 X 39 caliber as a AK Hunter.

I suppose you could put enough lip stick and girlie essentials on a pig and make it somewhat resemble a Lady. But in the end.... it will still will not be a Lady..... it will still be a pig and still sell for pig prices.

Besides for the caliber...is the Norinco Hunter receiver not the same as a Galils?  Heck...what about a Valmet...same caliber even.

And yes I know...if a conversion is done with a Hunter receiver you purists will consider it crap no matter what.

In the AK hunter action the (bolt) locks up into a barrel extension. The Galil bolt locks into the receiver not the barrel. The reason for this was for heat dispersion of the round in intensive conditions such as the desert and full auto fire. Hence the very stout receiver used by Galil.

WHAT???  No.

The Norinco Hunter receiver is a copy of a Valmet Hunter receiver.  They are both milled steel.  The Valmet Hunter receiver is based on the original Valmet 62 which also has a milled receiver.
The Israeli Galil receiver is based on the original Valmet 62 and the first Galils built used actual Valmet receivers purchased from Finland.  These are all just variations of the ole original AK-47.
The actions lock up exactly the same.

So, a Norinco Hunter receiver is actually very similar to a Galil and can be used to make a very nice clone in 7.62x39.  No, it'll never be a true Galil, but makes a neat variation.

I have never understood how anyone would think this looks like a Galil...  Take off all those bells and whistles and you get closer to an original Galil.
No disrespect, but if you're gonna slam someone elses ideas...
BTW, I'm a die hard Galil fan - but haven't completely closed my mind to other weapons.

Izzynut, I'm curious do you even own a real IMI Galil? Judging from posts like.... "Take off all those bells and whistles and you get closer to an original Galil" .....you do not.

Well lets see...
Three .223 ARMs, two .308 ARMs, a Galil Sniper rifle (GSR) , one HADAR .308, two .223 SARs waiting to be built - all genuine IMI.
Oh, and three Norinco Hunters and one Valmet.

You need to lay your crack pipe down there Jelly doughnut man...  I'd be interested in seeing any ak varient with a barrel extension bolt lock-up... LMAO

Issy Nut , I did not say there was anything wrong with a Norinco Hunter, it is a fine rifle. I guess if you replaced the gas block, ground off the rear sight, replaced the weird trigger setup, figured out a way to put a left safty selector, drilled and mounted a new stock and pistol grip, figgured out a way to make a galil front and rear handguard hangers, and replaced the top cover it would .....sorta... look like a Galil, but as I said before the Hunter is a fine Rifle, Why... Ptttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Mr tolerence. Would love to see a group shot of all your galils, that is if you have a camera.

A Norinco Hunter is butt ugly in its "sporterized" form - I totally agree.   However Epsilon's question was about the receiver.  The receiver is MILLED and is very close to the Galil receiver.
The internals are likewise very similar.
If you'd take the time to do a search on some of the "other" AK sites, you'd find some really nice Galil clones built up by folks who actually know and understand their weapons beyond the superficial attributes.
I only chimed in on this thread because I was so dismayed at a couple of people so willing to state their opinions as fact while displaying a total lack of knowledge of the subject.
I do agree that the Galil is the finest AK ever built with the Valmet 62 a close runner up.  That's just my opinion.

I am 52 years old and bought my first Galil from Magnum Research when they were first imported,  I was one of the plank holders on Brian Wood's Valmet Galil Board and am considered by some to know a little about Galils. It is truly amazing and wonderful that there are so many people enjoying our sport and gaining knowledge via the internet. I would seriously love to see a group shot of your stuff Issy and thanks in advance.

I've got a group pic from a couple years ago, but haven't ever posted one before.  If you want to send me your email addy I can email the pic to you and you can host it if you want.
I didn't plan on using this thread to show off my Galils.  I just wanted to clear up the misinformation being put out there.
I've been working on my collection for the last 35 years - I'm not rich.  I've never paid more than $700.00 for any one of the Galils in my collection.

jmikesteen,  Sorry for bustin' your balls.  I'm sure your knowledgable on these weapons.  Just keep in mind that there is always more to learn and you never know who you're conversing with on these boards.  I'm not going to go into my resume' or get into a pissing contest on who owns what weapons.  After all, it doesn't matter what weapons you own or how long you've had them as to your level of knowledge.

Back to the original topic of this thread:  The receiver and internals of the Galil and Norinco Hunter are darn near the same.

Epsilon, email me and I'll get some side by side pics to you.

7.62hurts,  Send me your email addy and I'll send you some pics.

Please don't think that you have busted my balls because you would have to know where to find them. I don't believe you do. I f I had known that you designed the rifle, Mr. Galil, I would have simply defered to you. I though this was the Galil and Valmet board but I guess it is just another Smart ass AR15 board. I was told by the other serious students on the other Galil Valmet boards to stay away from this place, that any post whould have some know it all condesending to me, well one more time I was wrong, so please forgive me for stoping by and don't bother sending me anymore excuses via email because I will place them unopened in the spam folder, but feel free to blast me here Mr. Galil because you can have the last word for you and your ball busting wantabees to chuckle over because I won't waste my time or what little knowledge I have here.

Sorry to offend you jmikesteen.  It wasn't my intent.  Its through conversations like these that we all learn.  What's wrong with that?  Sure I'm ribbin' you a little.   Relax, we're all gun-nuts here.

Seriously, I in no way meant to run you off.  I seldom post at all - but enjoy reading and picking up good info when I can.  I was also a big fan of B-Woods' site and am sorry it went away.
It seems that there's not that many people talking Galil these days and that's too bad.  Surely that's due to availability becoming ever more scarce and even parts kits drying up.

The plastic receiver is perfectly fine for everyday use killing varmits (as we all know that the .223 is NOTHING but a varmit round) The only problem is the plastic barrel, That my friend is the bitch.

Oh, and by the way issy, your comment about orginal equipment is really brought home to roast ib your shot of the galil grip on the bottom of the wood handguard and the railed gas tube or did I just miss another "factory Modification" again

Thanks for the compliment but NAW, I got a left nut already. I bought all my galils when they were reletively cheap and owned several stamped Valmets but didn't really start wanting a 62 until the price hit 2500. I finaly found a wood 62s on gun broker that i got luckey on for a little less than 2K then had that guy up in MI do me one of the galil stocks to fit it and now that puppy will go in my will.

I picked that B-Square mount up at a fun show for cheap.  It was brand new.  I honestly don't know which direction the darn thing goes???  I sold it on ebay a year or so back.  It was a fine solid mount,  but I just never really liked the whole forward mounted optics thing on a Galil.  A fine setup, just not my cup of tea.  Same with the forward PG.
I do wish I would have picked up one of those Botach rail set-ups when they were available.
