Help!

I'm trying to ID this underfolder.

There's no markings on the side of the receiver and I think what was on the underside forward of the magazine has been scrubbed off.

I'm guessing a kit gun and if it is I also have to worry about compliance.  I'm behind enemy lines in NY.

looks pretty good but kinda fishy that the import info is ground off. i think it has the wrong stock also. looks like it prolly was pre-ban but can't proove it now. get you some U.S. parts.

Yeah, I can't see any stampings or markings on the sides of the receiver.  The only numbers on it are the originals on the bolt, dustcover and somewhere else.

Thankfully it's not mine.  Unfortunately I have to try and figure this out.

I'm going with it was a kit and not an imported rifle.

Anyone else agree?

The owner (not me) wants the rifle refinished and I want to know it's legal status before I do anything with it.

Thanks!

Just look at those rivets, I'd go with homebrew also...

EDIT: and are those screws in the rear trunnion?

Not at all.  There isn't a thing on that rifle that was pre-ban other than the individual pieces and parts that comprised the original rifles incorporated into that existing rifle.  That rifle appears to have been a "garage build" by someone.  Look at how the rivets and pins were done on the receiver.  The buttstock also appears to be Bulgarian underfolding buttstock for the milled receiver.  I'd say the markings under the receiver near the magazine well were either so lightly engraved that they've worn off or they were gently "buffed out" before the finish was applied.

Definately not a pre-ban gun but something hashed together by someone.  I don't think it'll work for folks that are behind the lines and must have a pre-ban rifle.

I don't have the rifle in front of me but I think they are small hex head screws by the rear trunnion.

The rifle's owner said he had a cop look at it and declared it preban based on the 1987 date on the front trunnion.  I know that's the trunnions mfg. date and not the rifle's assembly date.

The photos I've seen of preban Yugos seem to have the importer's stamps on the sides of the receiver.

I'm going to have to go with this is NG in NY.

Thanks for all the help

That is a really crappy homebuild. It is built off a parts kit––it's not a pre-ban rifle. The rivets are horrible, and i cannot immagine what else is wrong with it. Looks slopped together. Also it is fairly apparent that the serial # and manufacturer's info was scrubbed. I wouldn't accept that rifle for any work!
