| Got a new (to me) Elk River receivered Bulgarian 5.45x39 krink yesterday. Beautiful finish though seems kinda tight in magwell and bolt carrier coming to the rear. I went to shoot it today and each round short stroked.(it did not pick up next round. now the rifle was dry meaning no oil. This has never been a problem with my other AKs but will lube and try again later. any thoughts on problems. is elk river an ok receiver? any opinions appreciated. |

My first suggestion (after posting this in the Krink thread as well as this thread) is to lube it up some, mainly where your hammer (FCG) contacts the bolt carrier. Seeems it's a little tighter there than it should be. If that's the case, either the bolt carrier is too low or the FCG is installed too high. It makes me wonder if the problem isn't in your FCG mounting point considering your magwell seems tighter than it should be. Considering you have experience with other AK's you obviously are familiar with how this gun is supposed to feel when it racks so I take your word for it.
Lube first, then report your results (notice I said "lube", not "overlube"). |

for starters......how does the carrier slide without the FCG and bolt removed?
then see how it works with the bolt, making sure the ejector and/or rails fit......sometimes the ejector can be tight against the bolt. if the top rails are not properly adjusted and trimmed, from front to back, that could be the problem.. |
| its tight to me. Especially with the hammer in the up position. never the less when hammer is down it still seems to have too much friction. will it work itself out? is this an expencive fix? I have never worked on one soo dont know what to look for or do. thanks |
| Well, shot different mags today and it ran like a champ! not 1 problem. Just a silly question. are AK74 mags in 223 and 5.45x39 diferent significantly? would this cause a problem? the first mag was the orange colored mag the second and third were black and orange consecutively. I did notice yesterday that with just one round in the mag, the round would fall out upon loading. ??? could this be .223? thanks |
