Gurus,
I have got the itch (again) to get one of the Lancaster Rough Rider AK-74s, but I am somewhat concerned about the current batches with stainless steel barrels. I plan to primarily shoot the cheap surplus (until it dries up). My questions are: 1.) Are there any know issues with steel cased ammo and stainless steel barrels? 2.) will there be any "special" concerns with shooting corrosive ammo through a stainless steel barrel? 3.) Does anyone have one yet, how is their accuracy? I have seen other threads about these rifles, but they were all about the chrome lined barrels that were available when the rifle released. Thank you for any info you can provide. |
| do yourself a favor before laying down your hard earned cash on a lancaster, go to the ak discussions section and read a few of the horror stories. there are numerous threads on the following; rear trunions coming loose, out of spec optic rails, out of spec barrels, warranty return issues, etc. |
| I bought one of the Bulgarian red stocks not a rough rider. After reading some of the last few posts it sure seems that a bad batch of rough rider rifles got out lately. I'm now wondering about mine even though it's not a rough rider. I guess none of these companies have QC anymore. Ruger with all the LCP and SR9 problems, my AR-180B had to go back to Armalite becuse of a bad op rod, S&W has had a few recalls, Sig recalled all of their P238's I believe, Taurus handguns have had metal quality issues. I think even Arsenal had a problem in the last couple of years with barrels non center bored barrels. |
| This is just my opinion, but I think I may know what happened to Lancaster. During the Obama scare right after elections, they were probably trying to assemble rifles as fast as they could just to get them out the door. That, combined with exhausted employees, ended up making crappy rifles. I have a Lancaster Russian Red that was built pre-election and it performs flawless after about 1000 rounds. Again, dont lynch me. This is just my opinion. And yes, I know what they say about opinions!! LOL!!! |

MY SLR-107UR has a bushing installed in its gasport ito compensate for the longer barrel if the RR has it gasport drilled to large can i make a bushing to correct this? sorry for the lack of grammer im on my iphone. I've been thinking the same thing. This practice is pretty common to match ARs when tuning the gas pressure. I can't see why it can't be done. |
