I am a left handed shooter who wants to buy and AK. Are there any left handed models, or do I just need to tough it?

Never heard of, or seen one....Doesn't mean there isn't one, but not to my knowledge.

The lefties I shoot with love the unmodified AK. It's actually easier to shoot left handed and run the safety, mag release and charging handle with your right.

As a lefty I would have to concur with the previous poster. I have no problem running my AK.

I shoot lefty as well and it works great.
There might be a hint of concern about what side of the receiver your face is on, but the topcover does not seem protective in that regard, anyways.

Add a bit of length via A replacement stock and you should have 0 issues shooting lefty with a standard AK.

Ive seen an AK with a ghetto, zip-tied piece of plastic on the side of the rifle to keep the shells from hitting him when he shot it lefty.  It worked really good actually.  Ill see if I can find a picture.  O

Thanks for all the advice. I never minded working charging handles on righty guns when shooting lefty, but I was worried about ejecting shells and gunpowder in my eyes.

Get a shell deflector and wear eye protection.

the ak seems to work well for the lefty.the empties are thrown away from the shooter at about the 2 o'clock position and i myself soot lefty and have never had an issue with and gas, gunpowder or empty brass.the ak operates very well for lefties in my imho.

Now that I know I have nothing to worry about, I was wondering if there was a certain make of AK that I need to avoid because I assume that most of them are technically sound. Is there a company that makes a superior one, or do they all have similar performance?

the only issue i have as a lefty shooter, is the lack of sling options.

Left handed AK.  Of course there is, haven't you all seen the intro to "Lord of War"...

One more vote for lefties loving AKs as they are.

Don't get me wrong, I am not retarded or worse, left handed, I lost center vision in my right eye in Sept 01, and have had to shoot left eyed ever since, this means left handed.

I found the AKs to work pretty well left handed without any mods to it at all. I have developed an aversion to milsurp bolt guns since then, but I still have them.

I will tell you one thing that annoys the hell out of me, I go into a gunshop (who advertises carrying left handed guns), and as what they have for lefties in bolt rifles. The guy gives me shit, tells me that while they can order them, it would be so much better for me to get used to shooting right handed, as the guns are cheaper and all of the doodads are available, and that you should be able to shoot equally well with either hand, etc... (the lefties here know the speech). I once more told him that what I really wanted was a left handed bolt rifle in .308, and he started showing me a Remy 700 in .308, that was just as right handed as the two right handed Remy .308s I have in the safe at home (I was given one as a gift, a fine walnut hunting rug, the other I bought shortly before losing center vision in my right eye, it has barely been used). I told him that I was planning on signing the charge card reciept with my right hand, but would have to go somewhere where they would sell me something to shoot with my left.

The good news is that I recieved several very nice very old left handed bolt rifles that had been my grandfathers (Like me he was right handed, but had lost vision in his right eye).

I too have the lefty AK sling mount blues, and this here doohickey seems to be the best solution for mounting a lefty style sling setup to an AK that I have found. One through the front sight, and (for my Yugounderfolder) drill a hole in right stock arm, and put one through there. I bet it would work real good, I just have not had the extra cash to order them yet. If anyone here gets em, let us know how they work out.

...Another left handed AK shooter, like em just fine the way they are.

Another option would be to use an Israeli sling with paracord attachments. BSW
