Iv heard that its illegal to modifie a yugo 56 sks. By takeing off the bayonet, gernade launcher or any other feature.

Was that just dureing the 1994-2004 ban? Or is that still a law? I live in PA by the way, if that makes a diffrence. I want to put a vented steel top handguard on my Yugo 56 sks. Is that legal?

Thank you for all your help.

Any deviation from the original configuration moves it from C&R status, and thus it must meet the 10 parts rule. The question is now, "What parts do I exchange?" According to a letter from the ATF: the gas piston, the stock, the handguard, the magazine, and the grenade launcher replaced with a muzzle brake. The op-rod is not counted and the stock mag consists of only two parts (no floorplate). One might want to replace the op-rod... just to be safe.

I removed the GL and associated sight, the bayo, then replaced the gastube, piston, stock, mag, and op-rod. I made the gas piston, am testing a SS op-rod from another board's member, am using a railed tube w/o the rail, chopped and crowned the barrel, moved the front sight back to the gas-block, added a T6 stock and Tapco 20 rounder.
