I have made a few AKs, but I am not 100% sure on the pistol side of the house...

Can I make a pistol from an 80% reciever?  Will it need to be registered when I am done?

The motive for this question is for another side project.  I am thinking about a STEN gun, and instead of getting a 16" barrel, I want to use a parts kit, a 80% receiver tube, and a pistol grip instead of the T stock ( thus having a pistol, instead of an illegal SBR )

Am I wrong?
Advice please....

I don't THINK there is any special requirements for making a pistol receiver.  Maybe someone else may have some info on that.

As far as building a Sten goes though, I don't think you can.  I bought one of the Sten kits a few years ago, but then was told the BATF had not aproved any Stens as semi-auto.  That they were all legally full auto receivers even if they didn't fire full auto.  Possibly because they were too easy to convert to full auto.

If you find out any different I would like to know about it.  Aside from the money I spent on the kit, it was also a PITA to remove all the pieces of the old receiver.  Then to find it was all for nothing.Brizz
