http://members.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/lenstesting/usaf_a4.pdf I found some high-end scope articles relating to a Zeiss test pattern to quantify several measurements of optical quality. So crawled about the net in search of a tool for myself. The link above is the best I found because it prints very clearly on my office laser printer, and is intended for std 8 1/2x 11 paper. It'll probably be used in future reports to answer questions like how clarity improves the view over magnification, and how much sharper is the view of the PO3.5x21 compared to the PSO4x24. I figure setting it at 50yds to see how small a set of lines can still be observed will be an effectively simple tool we can share. |

members.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/lenstesting/usaf_a4.pdf There are also some great lens test patterns in the book "The Unltimate Sniper" by John Plaster" A very good book on good shooting in general, not just sniping. |

Take two scope of the same magnification. Focus (at the same preset magnification) on the largest pattern. Then look to see which is the SMALLEST pattern you can clearly see. Do the same with the second scope. The scope that allows you to see the smallest pattern the most clearly has the better optics, and will allow you to see smaller targets at langer range. |
