Hey guys, sorry if this is a dupe thread, but I saw this over in the training forum and figured I'd post it here.  I believe this is a Polish trooper doing a click-empty/reload drill.

We discussed this on the AK forum....

His mag was already released and I have no clue why he flips the rifle to the side.  Also we came to the conclusion that the video is indeed sped up and that the audio is added afterwards to make it sound like real time.

I just assumed that he was looking for a stoppage first, then went to reload.  It doesn't look like it's sped up to me?  How many pages did the last thread go?  I can only imagine...

For running 'sport courses' redstararms.com has speed wings for the mag release, but they just help accidental mag drops in actual combat imho.

very cool, I don't see how it's sped up, but I'm no tech geek

Just using a motion to clear the spent mag, I always just kept pushing forward till it falls it front.

I still say he's doing it for no purpose.  What does it practically serve to flip it like he did?

I even took a screen shot to show the part I'm talking about

I think he's visually checking the bolt to verify that it is all the way forward.

Something like that. Shooter pulls trigger, gets a click... so he rotates the rifle to check for a malfunction (failure to feed/eject/etc). Seeing none,  he then assumes the gun is empty and begins the reload process.

That's my guess, anyway.

fivepoint can you explain a little better  redbears mag change process?  have you tried it?  recorded the process?  I am just for some reason not getting it, but would like to learn

It would make more sense to ignore the diagnostics and just reload the gun. With any weapon it is the rare malfunction that a mag change and a rack of the mechanism doesn't fix.

Sped up.

But you can change an AK mags amazingly fast if you practice.

Try pulling your new mag, pushing the mag release with the front of the new new mag and continuing the push to knock it out of the magwell. The insert the new one, reach under the gun, and rack the bolt. Scary fast.

SM....sorry didn't see your question...give me 30 and I'll have pics of me doing it.

Okay here it goes (please note I was sitting down while doing this b/c it's harder than hell to do this and take pics at the same time.)

First pic shows how to hold the mag....the ends curving away from your body

Next you hold the AK w/ your strong side w/ stock under arm pit or wherever you feel comfortable and then engage the mag release w/ the fwd top portion of the mag.

This is where it gets a bit tricky as if your mags are tight/don't drop free you need to slam the release fwd and while doing so allow you mag in your hand to slide off the release and hit the empty mag to properly remove it, allowing it to fall to the ground

Next up bring the mag in your hand up to the rifle and begin to load and then properly insert the new mag into the rifle and charge the handle....you can charge w/ either your left or right hand...which ever you feel more comfortable doing.

Larry Vickers recommended against that technique in his AK class.  He said if the mag is tight due to dirt in the weapon or on the mag, it might not be possible to sweep it out with another mag alone.  He teaches to remove it with your weak side hand.  He also prefers to charge it from above due to increased leverage.

He is using centrifugal force to sling the old mag out.
