There is a gun show coming up in two weeks. Ok, sure I can search and read numerous post, but would like to know what item to look for that will meet the following criteria and also looking for input to questions as well: - The most reliable AK. (Don't want to deal with jams.) - This is only plinking item. - The recommended caliber. - What make or name to request? - Must accept the AK drums. - Do these accept the $99 75 round drums? - Would like a compensator. - What are the top 10 things to look for or request? Thanks for any response and sorry for being lazy. |
| First, this is not a matter of what to buy, but what not to buy. It has been said by others to avoid hesse. Most everything else runs like a dream. These are not ARs they usually work all the time. I prefer 7.62x39 My current is a romanian SAR-1, about $350-$400 now and lends itself well to later upgrades. The cream of the crop for starters is the SAm7 and variants by Arsenal. Whatever you buy, your odds of getting a dog are minimal. |

SAMs are marked on the receiver, get the SAM7-S so you have a side rail for optics mount options (about $50 more, parts alone are 30). Compensators can be changed or added, should not make/break your deal. Just avoid a Hesse/Vulcan, or a strangers homebuild. Since your drum spells volume fire, check for chrome lining, note that 90%+ AKs have that anyway. Drum = 7.62x39, but other calibers are quite good in 30 rnd servings. |
