I noticed that my new 10/63 has a very loose piston. Like I can turn it almost a full turn in each direction.  My other 10/63 wobbles a little but is not this loose.   Will this cause any issues?

It functions fine. Although the accuracy isn't the same as my other 10/63.

It should wobble but NOT TURN.  There is supposed to be a pin right through the piston & carrier - yours is either missing the pin or the pin sheared off at both ends.  Have it fixed ASAP (make sure it still has the wobble after the fix though - ask me how I know that).

Well I was able to unscrew it out with a little effort. I don't know about any pin, I didn't see any & there are no holes on the piston threads.
So how do I fix this?

Screw it in so that it has just a little wobble, then drill a hole and pin it.

Can I just buy a complete replacement already assembled?

That would be alot of extra money.  Its really not hard to pin it.  A 1/8th drill bit and roll pin should have it up and running.

century removes the romanian piston and puts in a US made one for 922r...they usually screw it in and tack weld it.

Not sure what to do.....There is no pin on my other AK.  I guess I could get it spot welded again. I know a welder. I can find complete replacements for about $50 online.

OP- DO NOT WELD!!!

That is a completely F****D UP way of doing it!!!  If true, then F*** Century - they deserve a bad reputation for shoddy work like that.

OP:  its not difficult to pin these and you will have the satisfaction of knowing your workmanshop blow Century Arms out of the water.   I'll see if I can find a DIY link for you.

FOUND IT!  It is pinned at the top of this page - the build it yerself page:

I also saw youtube vids on it.  Problem is I have no idea what size pin to use. The hole in the carrier is pretty big compared to the hole on my other AK. Also don't have the tools to do it. No grinders, no drill bits strong enough. May make more sense to buy a complete unit.
I can't mess with it till the weekend.

Any update?  I agree replacement might get your gun back on the shooting range with less hassle.

Not a priority at the moment. Haven't messed with it. I have other rifles I can use.  I am getting a replacement not sure when though.

After buying a few bits & borrowing a hammer drill I drilled the holes & used a AR15 trigger guard pin & pounded that into the hole & ground off the ends. Works fine now. Range tested it today.

Thanks for the update & congrats - your work is clearly supperior to CAI.

Q. - did you leave in some play or wobble in the piston?  This is usually critical to proper functioning.

It's not rock solid, doesn't really move much though. Seems to function fine. I'm guessing it will loosen up a little after some rounds.
