Will 400m actually hit poi
Your question is sort of confusing. I guess the bullet will hit it's poi at any range. That's kind of the definition of point-of-impact. If you are asking if the POA equals POI at 400 meters on the 400m setting then I don't know. Probably not but I bet someone has tried or is wiling to try. However, since the post title mentions combat effectiveness, the short answer is that it is probably most effective under 100 meters for a number of reasons. Even better under 50. One issue with the short barrel will be loss of velocity. It's not as much of a problem with the M92 as it would be with a 5.56 gun like an AR or the M85, but a shorter barrel always equals less velocity and consequently less effectiveness at longer ranges. This can also have an effect on accuracy, but not as much as one might think. You can read about velocity out of short barrels all day long on arfcom so I'll let you do your own research on that. The basic answer is that no short gun will be outstanding at longer distances. That's not what they are made for. |

If I'm not mistaken its 50 fps loss per inch. Seems like the like the 12.5" barrels were losing somewhere in the area of 200 fps compared to the 16" barrel.
Now keep in mind if you were firing the 154 gr SP ammo it would come out of a much faster than a .357 mag I shoot the mini which has an even shorter barrel with guys that shoot full size AK at 80 yds and it kicks up as much dust as the the full size AK. This doesn't prove much but it seems like it be very effective at that range. With a AMD 65 with a 12.5" barrel this is what I know, it will shot low at 367 yds, however adjusting the sights up its pretty close. Even out over 650 yds the sights were pretty close on (think they at this distance), by that you could hit a 6'x2' target. Now you're probably thinking I'm an expert shot but two of the guys with us never shot at those distances (367 yds) and they were hitting standing up. Now at over 850 yds (maybe 887 yds don't remember the exact range) with a a 12.5" barrel off a bench I'm unable to hit a car. Perhaps a bus with the best shot. When the wind would blow it looked like the bullet would drift over 100yds, but may have just been bad shooting. Now none of this really does't answers your concerning the M92, but hopefully gives you some info on short barrel AKs. If the sight adjust as well as the AMD 65 you should be GTG. |

Yeah, you are correct about 200 fps drop off from 16" to 12". unbelievable almost unbleiveable being that the max effective range on a standard AK is around 300m. Nice Shooting! |
