Hi,
Anyone know how difficult it is to convert a post ban imported MAK90 to a more traditional looking AK47?

Does anyone provide such service? oR does anyone know where to buyone that has been converted?

I checked gun broker, came across 2 that's cobverted to "Tactical Rifle", which looks more like an AR.

Thanks

Its easy as can be, the worst part would be the piston if you suck with tools and have no technical know-how.

I'd rate it a 2 out of 10 to convert using G2 trigger, new furniture, possibly using US FOLLOWER or US floorplate. I did a piston though because I wanted to see how good I could do it, I did a damn fine job.

I am debanning mine right now. The G2 trigger was easy and I am waiting for my Ironwood stock right now. I am going crazy waiting for the stock. I still am trying to figure out how I want to finish it.
That would give me 6 compliance parts which makes it legal. I will also pick up some floorplates and followers too just to have them.

I would do the gas piston too but I would like to practice first on another part to make sure I could do it right.

It's not hard at all. Actually, it's quite easy. I replaced the FCG, piston, pistol grip and added a US-made muzzle nut, so I was able to use a Chinese buttstock and front furniture. I then added a pin-on Chinese bayonet. Result:

The easiest things to do are replacing the FCG and adding a US pistol grip. The piston is a bit harder, but don't forget you can also replace up to two parts in the magazine and have them apply toward your 922 count. If you are just wanting the easiest path, change out the FCG (that's three parts) and replace the followers and magazine bottoms bottoms (2 parts). You can stop there unless your barrel is threaded. In that case, you can unscrew the barrel attachment and screw on a US made brake or nut. If you want the tacti-cool look by putting an AR stock on it, that's easy to do as well since the AR stock adapter uses the same two trunion holes. It's all real easy.

Thanks.

You can buy tons of original Chinese parts, like furniture, from Polytech Parts. Being original, they are your best bet for a match in wood type and color. Here's the link:
http://polytechparts.com/
At the main page, click on SHOP NOW on the left side of the page. A picture of an AK will appear in a box on the right. Click on "Stocks, Handguards and Magazines". Scroll down and you'll find all the stock components you could want. The blonde stock like mine is part number 70-05 and costs $34.95.

Yes, the MAK-90 uses the double hook. The only thing I did different with the installation of my trigger components is that I used a C-clip to hold the hammer and trigger pins in place. It's much easier than the original wire. I know some people also use - I forget the correct name - those paperclip looking retaining pins.
