Has anyone here threaded the MAK-90 barrel?

Do I need to remove or replace the front sight assembly to do this?

My preban Polytech had a spring loaded pin that stuck out the front of the sight base that kept the brake from backing off after it was attached. The MAK's does not, is this pin necessary? can a jamb nut be used instead?

And lastly would this be the correct tap?

I would say no, that die from k-var looks like a thread fixing die, not a thread cutting die. Look for a split-die that is for thread cutting not thread restoing. I seem to have had a link for a good place that sold a good quality on for like $25. let me look

thanks! do you know about the issue with the FSB?

Yes, the mak-90 FSB does not have the muzzleretaining pin. What i did on my mak-90 was punched out the first FSB barrel pin (closest to muzzle), then drilled a hole thru FSB from the front (where the muzzle retaining pin would have been had it been there). Then took a nail (cant remember the size) and a ballpoint spring to use as a Muzzle retaining pin. A little relief (dremel) on the nail portion till the FSB barrel pin (the one that I punched out) would retain it and you can't tell that it isn't factory. I hope you understood this, i hardly did when reading it back

There is a company in Idaho that makes die kits for hand threading rifle muzzles....name escapes me. They had $75 kits that contained a thread alignment tool in your caliber....a cutting die in the correct thread and a hand turning die holder.....works well....anybody remember the name???

I know Dinzag rents the kits that contain all this. The rental fee is $25.

the thing that gets me is drilling the FSB for the spring and plunger. I know I would screw this up, without a doubt I would get it crooked or in the wrong spot. I wonder if anyone makes a jamb nut in the correct size?
