So I have a MAK 90 that needs to be re-done to rid it of that awful butt stock.  I want a Pic rail for the front lower handguard off the sides to mount a surefire.  I have been toying with the idea of mounting a piece of rail section drectly to the wood on the lower handguards.  Anyone ever thought of this, checked the pic forum and never seen one.  Just curious. I would try it on the originals before trying it on the new furniture that I'll order.

It will work. The problem with the top wood on the gas tube is that the gas tube itself is not a very stable platform for optics because it wobbles by design. Not a problem for a white light, but less than ideal for scope/laser/red dot etc...
