I have read before that NATO or WARSAW considered the AK74 to be effective to 450 meters compared to 300 meters for the 47s and AKMs. Any truth to that statement? |

I'd say a good quality AK in 7.62 x 39 has an effective range of about 400 yards on a man sized target just from personal experience. Hits out to 600 yards are possible, but require multiple shots and therefore this would be beyond it's effective range by definition. These AK's dont get enough credit for accuracy IMO. My Yugo AK can hang in there with an unmodified GI Garand unless you use match quality ammunition. I have no personal experience with an AK-74 so I can't comment on their effective range, but ballistic wise they probably don't have much oomph past 350-400 yards. |
Wow either God himself built your AK or you have the shittiest Garand on the planet lol. No just fucking with ya. Seriously though I know AKs are not known for accuracy, but I was thinking more along the lines of ballastic power to stop at range. |
