| I am in the market for another Ak or two and I don't have anything milled yet. I was checking out some AK's on gunbroker and I came across a NIB Arsenal SAS Classic M-7 UF for damn near $1600. I like the gun but 1600 for an AK seems kinda steep to me. I did a search here on the SAS and didn't come up with anything useful so I tried to archive and I got a message to contact the admin and an error occured. So basically I need to be schooled on this particular AK. Is their any collector value and was there really only 200 of these made? IF I get one I plan on shooting it regardless. I was thinking for that price I just as well get 2 Slr-95s or something. |
Unfortunately, Arsenal is not producing milled rifles, so the costs are sky-rocketing. Classic SAS models ran for around $1100.00-1250.00 depending on condition, who was selling, etc. $1600 is way overpriced, in my opinion...but it's really all relative to you, the buyer. Yes, 200 made for both the SAS Classic and the SA M-7 Classic fixed stock. If you like the gun and can swing it financially, go for it. In my opinion, I'd buy two nice rifles, mags and ammo. Bud |
I have a Vector Milled underfolder - it goes about $900 - it looks about the same and is as well put together as my milled arsenal (as far as I can tell thus far). Just another option for you. |
| For a similar price, maybe even less, I'd buy a Polytech Legend. Damn good rifle. I've never fired an SAS or SA M-7, so I can't say anything as to its quality. My Legend underfolder, however, is one fine, accurate rifle and more collectible since it is 100% Chinese made. |

The SAS or M7 are special models that is why they are so expensive, but there are plenty of alternative milled AKs out there for A LOT less than 1600$. The Vector is one, A Mak-90 that you convert youself is another, the Chinese banned can be had for a lot less than $1500, the SLR-95 or 93 are also milled, and also i think the regular 7.62 arsenals that were not "special models" are also around for about $700 to $800. Also consider getting a VEPR with the RPK receiver. |
If you can find an SLR95 in good shape SNAG IT! They are 100% Bulgarian and worth spending some $$ to de-thumbhole. |
Probably nothing except they are pricey. $850 seems a bit much considering most people were saying $899 was to high for a SAM7 carbine that was on sale here locally (also milled). |
| Thanks for all the advice and comments. I think I am going to try and pick up a SLR95 for now if I can find one, I passed up a nice one last year and bought a Yugo instead. I am hoping to get my hands on one with in the next week or two. I certainly will post pics of whatever I end up with. Who knows maybe I'll "get both". |

Corso0331, Good luck on your search. I posted the pic and price to give you an idea of the cost of having one done from a kit. A lot of the price is in the reciever and having the threaded barrel installed unless you can do it yourself. This has been an interesting thread as I was unaware of how high the cost on milled guns has gone up. At the time I had my Russian kit done 1k was a lot of money and I, like you, was pressed to spend the money. Now I am glad I did it and seems that the price is just some above average these days. |
Thanks, your AK is really nice. The only thing I am concerned about is do I spend a ton on the Arsenal Classic and call it a day and try to find a SLR95 later as they seem to be a bit (not much) easier to find? Like I said I going to get something soon and pics will be up. |
Look for a SA-93 if you want the classic look. |
Great rifles. I converted the post ban to the pre ban style on my old slr95. Nothing like a milled ak
