Proof-positive that good things come to those who wait...

Well...it's here...the Polish Underfolder that I had -Duke-Nukem- and the guys at Missouri Custom Armament build for me.

They did the assembly and metal refinish using Norrel's Moly-Resin. I refinished the handguards and sent them along with the kit.

As I stated before, this is the first AK that I've owned in about five years...and I'm pretty jazzed about it...

Here's the details of the parts...

Collector's Grade 1978-dated Polish Underfolder kit from Dan's Ammo. It was obviously a brand-new rifle that had been demilled...
NoDak Spud NDS-1 Receiver with custom serial number to match the one on the kit.
G-2 Fire Control Group.
Arsenal "Match Grade" Gas Piston from K-Var.

I won't get a chance to get out to the range for another week or so, but when I do, I'll most certainly post a range report. Something tells me that I won't be disappointed.

Things I noticed about the rifle upon the first inspection of it:

#1- It feels very "solid"...no loose parts.

#2- The underfolding stock operates easily and smoothly and has no wobble.

#3- The G2 trigger is very smooth and breaks cleanly...it rivals any of the Chinese AK triggers that I've ever felt.

#4- All of the mags I have lock in easily and smoothly with very little side-to-side wobble.

#5- Those underfolding stocks are cold as Hell when you lay a bare cheek on them after the rifle has been riding around in the trunk of your wife's car in 30*F weather for 3 hours...

Now, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

It's a beaut. I can't wait to send mine off to them. What color is the stain?

I lucked out and got some handguards that had a nice looking grain to them.

The stain is Minwax Red Mahogany spray stain. I followed the directions on the can and did two applications. I finished it off with Minwax satin-finish Spar Urethane.

Just goes to show that occasionally we finish a build and ship it out! LOL

We are working hard to get caught up on stuff.  Sgtstinger, the job you did on the handguards really sets this rifle apart IMHO.

Beeyootiful! I have one of those kits from Dan's ammo waiting to be built and I am going with the same receiver and trigger group you chose.  Thanks for sharing pics.

Also agree that the refinish of the hand guards add something special to the build.

(edit cause I kant spel goode)

Try to wrap some 550 cord (that green paracord that mallninjas love to tie to everything) around the stock, start by laying it flat along the groove of the outside of the stock about how long you think you'd like it to cover the stock.  Then, double-back and start wrapping it TIGHT around the stock.  Finally, take the loose end of it and tuck it under the wrapped part w/a flathead of some sort.  Clear as mud?  There was a guy who had a page w/his Yugo rifles, showing him launching grenades and such, and he has a good pic of this.  I don't unfortunately.  It will still allow you to fold the stock on most underfolders, but keeps you from freezing your face to the weapon.

Great looking rifle, by the way!

Yeah, I'm going to do that...I found that guy's page a few days ago and printed off the pictures & instructions on how to do it...

Can you post a link for the page on how to wrap the metal of the folding stock?

Thanks!

This is actually the second AK that I've had them build...the first was a Romanian "G" kit on a Global Trades receiver that I gave my brother-in-law for his birthday. It was every bit as nice as this one.

Yeah, the guys at MCA are a little back-logged right now, but then again when you do quality work you can expect to be busy.

Thanks for all the compliments on my Underfolder, guys...I appreciate it.

You beat me to the link!

I tried this a few years ago on some knife handles and it worked out well, I didn't realize you could still operate the underfolder though until I saw his page.
