I have an idea I would like to run by you all. I am going to thread my MAK90 barrel for a muzzle device but I am thinking of going a different direction.

I was thinking of threading to ½ x 28 and putting on an extra A2 muzzle brake I have. Plus I will have more options with that thread size in case I want to change devices later on. I will also be adding a pin the way I did my cousins, out of a piece of drill bit shank and a ball point pen spring.

I do have a question though, should the A2 be reamed to .308, .310 or .311? I have seen different opinions as to the size.

To the traditionalists out there, I have already gone a non-traditional route with the build so I don’t feel bad changing it up a little. It’s not all tacticool, but I did go for an all plastic lightweight pig rig.

Thanks
Robert

1/2" won't really give you more options. there are tons of us companies making different style 14mm brakes now. plus if you change your mind in the future you can go back to original. IMHO

I just see all these cool looking muzzle devices for the 1/2x28 coming out all the time, with very few new designs for the 14mmx1 LH.

I was also being cheap I guess since it's just my pig hunting gun. I already have the 1/2x28 die, different muzzle devices and a whole set of precision piloted reamers.

None of the above, unless you want the muzzle device blown off.

The diameter for that rifle would be .311. IIRC. However, those threads are not going to be perfect, and the bullet is not going to be perfect. Leave some margin for error. This is not a silencer, so there is no drawback to larger size.

As noted above, the actual bore is .311, but you need to allow freebore.  .350 at a minimum, easier to go .375 (3/8).

Thank you all for the info.

I will ream the A2 out to .375 and slap it on and see how she works.

Thanks again,
Robert

You know I can only half ass it so much.

In thinking about how much time I want to spend, I really don't want to break it back down to turn the barrel down for the 1/2x28 threads the right way. So I guess I will stop being cheap and go buy the 14mmx1 LH die and a new muzzle brake.

Thanks for listening to my thinking out loud.
