My friend bought a used Norinco NHM91. He is not sure if the original owner did any modifications to the gun. I looked at it and all the parts looked unmodified. He's having a problem with the gun jamming. He's used several different brands of ammo, Wolf, Winchester, Federal and also different mags. He's getting FTE, FTF (light primer marks), double feed. Short of taking it to the range and testing it myself, I suggested a thorough cleaning of the bolt/carrier, piston assembly, and gas port. Am I missing anything? |

someone may have switched bolt/carrier on him. if you have another ak available, switch them out and see if that fixes it. same thing happened to a friend of mine. got a "kit" rifle that wouldnt fire 2 shots without a malfunction of some kind. we switched his b/c with mine and his worked fine. not sure about this... but we suspected that it was a FA bolt in a SA receiver. ETA: do all the numbers match? |

NHM 91 is a factory semi auto, isnt it? all im sayin is that someone could have switched parts with something "cooler" so that it would work. in the case im familiar with, the gun that didnt work was an underfolder built on an ohio ordinance (?) receiver and the part that made it work right came out of a NHM 90 (factory built SA) |
| I checked all of the numbers on the bolt/carrier and they match. The bolt cycles smoothly. I checked the tension on the extractor and it seemed fine. I will go out this Thursday and fire it. I have an unfired Norinco NHM90 that I can swap the bolt/carrier to see if there's a difference. Any other suggestions? |

Went to the range today and fired Wolf ammo (122 grain HP), light firing pin strikes, FTE, FTF. Swapped mags and ammo , same thing. I dropped in a brand new bolt carrier/bolt, firing pin, etc. and the gun went bang everytime reagrdless of mag or ammo (I had two diiferent kinds of ammo, Wolf and some FMJ). I'm thinking there may be a build up of crud in the firing pin area or possibly a worn firing pin. I will clean the bolt/firing pin area tonight. Thanks for the tips! |
