Found a parts kit without a barrel (Romanian) Where can I get one? How difficult will a build be if I buy an NDS receiver? I have built a few AR15s from scratch. |

I have built a few AR15s from scratch. building an AK is NOTHING like building an AR.. there is a steep learning curve and you must have tact and finess.. i learned my lesson (painfully) and ot cost me money.. i have limited patience you dont just jump into AK building.. you study.. think.. then act. NDS is a one of the best im told. |

I have built a few AR15s from scratch. Unless you're machining your own 80% lower, you aren't building anything from scratch. You're just assembling parts. An AK build is a little more complicated if you make your own receiver, but even if you use a NDS receiver it'll still take a couple specialized tools and finesse to assemble. And it is going to take more reading and skill than assembling an AR. You can sometimes find barrels from APEX and this thread that was also just started has some links to barrels and a couple people have posted their thoughts about them. Hope this helps. If you get stuck just come back to the forum, its an excellent resource! |

Don't think you are going to whip one out overnight your first time without help.
It took me 9 months to get my first one together. But if you have some patience and don't have ADD you can get one together, and besides we builders like buying kits from defeated hobbyists. It would be a good idea to check if anyone is having a build party in your area, even if you are not ready to build you can get some good pointers. It is ok to use the NDS just get NDS3 economy AKM for the Romanian fixed stock kits if that is what you are building. You don't want to have a lot of cash in it if you mess it up. Here is a place to get a low cost barrel. http://armsofamerica.com/us762x39romanianmodelbarrel6999.aspx I bet you got one of the $99 kits from Centerfire, if you did that's good they are good looking kits....just don't mess it up.. that would be a shame. Remember you also need to put 6 us made parts into your build to be 922(r) compliant here is a link to explain this. http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/BuildSKSVerifyCompliance To see some build videos so you can get an idea of what is needed check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/user/BuildyourownAK#g/u Pull out your billfold, and get your learning cap on cause you are in for a bumpy ride. Ooh.. by the way did you know that AK building is an addiction...just wanted to let you know, so you don't say no body told me afterwards. |

Probably the best you can get. More work, but you control all fitting issues on the rifle when you build from a virgin barrel.
