I just finished my AK 104 build about an hour ago... Took it out for test fire, and it wouldn't cycle... I think I must have pushed the gas block back too far. Broke my punches tring to get the pin out. I realy don't think I could get the block back off if I did get the pin out.( I had to pound the shit out of it to get it on...) Heres the question..tell me how stupid I am.. I was thinking of just drilling through the bottom of the barrell and up into the block..(there is a guide hole there already) then I was going to weld the hole back up and refinish the rifle. Or would I be better off trying to drill out the pin, heating the barrell and trying to get the block back off... What should I do?????? |

I drilled the gas block pin out, and still couldn't get the block off. I heated the whole unit, and still no dice. I was thinking I would drill through the barrell, tap the lower portion of the barrell...and fill the hole with a torQ screw...or similar. Any help is appreciated.. Thanks |

Did you use anti sieze upon re assembly?? if your upper gas tube fits you have to be close. maybe it is blocked. try plugging one end of the barrel and putting some ccompressed ar in there. listen by the gas block to se if you hear anything. maybe it just has to be tapped back or forth. good luck |

Thanks for the replies.. I didn't have access to a press. I heated the barrell and tried to get the block off for about two hours..no dice Tried some heavy duty pipe clamps(4 feet long)...no dice Finally drilled up through the barrell, against advice ![]() Tapped the lower hole in the barrell, and put a set screw in with loctite.. Works like a charm...no problems yet. Thanks for the help |
