| I'm considering buying a Meopta Artemis 2000 1.5-6x42 and was wondering if the 1.5 magnification is low enough to aim with both eyes open, thanks for your help. |

Field of view is a function of design and power. A 6deg fov at 4x gives a roughly 30' view at 100yds (advertised and measured will vary), and 60' at 2x. The more both eyes see everything, the easier it tends to be to concentrate on just depth of field difference. A red dot with minimal framing around it (CMore) is a bit easier to use than one with a bulkier frame/tube (Aim/EOTech), and each is much easier than a scope with a fat bell covering part of the view. Ease of reticle interpretation is another part of how well an optic serves as both CQB and distance optic. Not that I have not been shopping for a 1-4x range myself :) And the way is training no matter which you choose. |

Thanks RS39, I've been talking to Mark Powell of freeworldsrightarm.com and have been trying to decide between the afore mentioned scope and the Artemis 3100 1-4x22 (Illuminated). You might want to check that one out it's $498, meopta's web sight is http://www.meopta.com/products/ I belive the 3100's reticle is probally better for CQB but I think Mark did mention that it dose fade in bright sun light, however I deleted that e-mail already so I could be mixing that up with something else I read recently. What I was going to do is get the 1.5-6x42 and then use a DOCTERpoint Reticle Illuminator on the scope. any way you look at it I'll be spending $750 to $800 unless I make an adpapter to piggy back on the scope fo a Hakko Electro Reticle MKIII, however I know nothing a bout there quaility pros/cons. Assuming the Hakko would be a god choice do you think this would be a better way of going about getting the best of both worlds? Thanks again. |

As long as the red goes to black when turned off (the pic on the site seems to say so by changing every few seconds), washing out in bright light is not a biggie. As long as the KDot reticle on the 3100 is not too fat for nice paper punching, that would be my choice. The 2000 has a nicer reticle for detail work. But if you ever try to hunt in low light, an adj illuminated reticle is very nice. And the color difference makes it much, much easier to use both eyes. |
| Cool thanks again, I'm still leaning towards the 1.5-6x42 the getting a DR Octics ret Illuminator later downd the line, I just hope the 1.5 is good enough for CQB, if not I'll get a russian red dot probally. As far as the K-dot ret, I re-read an email that Mark sent and he said it's hard to see at long ranges. |
