Since the last thread has been turned into an insult match - thought time to start new thread. Received 24 mags from SG on Monday. All in sealed bags! Received: 1 - Bosnian 1-rib with flat spring 1 - Chinese all-stamped (absolutely mint) 1 - Yugo M64 notched mag 5 - Yugo round witness hole 4 - Yugo triangular witness hole ( all exc+ cond) 5 Chinese spineless (1 new) 7 - EE mags One of the Yugo round holes is covered with Peter Pan and Japanese stickers. Also has name "Jasko" etched on it. Three of the EE mags (I believe Romanian) have markings. Two with "O" on bottom of spine, and one with weird "Z" about middle of spine. One Chinese spineless and a YUgo round hole are butt-ugly. Rest would be described as VG+ to exc. Overall mags were in better condition than I have come to expect. Overall very happy. Tom |
| When I used to phone in my orders - you could ask the operator how many were still left. First two time I did this - I thought the girl was going to die laughing. At that time, about 6-8 mo ago, from what she said I fiqured 90,000. About 2 weeks ago; someone said they had about 30,000 left. Have'nt asked myself lately as I have been placeing orders over the internet. |
naw got denied on my CC for some weird reason called back this AM to their CS,, and it was approved?? dunno how that happened.. anyway. i have no way to check my order status since its a new # i think. we'll see come monday when the $$ clears my bank i guess...... |
is that 30,000 individual mags, or 30,000 6 packs... |
It's a lot either way. I just ordered a 12 pk. Buying the membership at the same time, I got the club price, free shipping, and $10 off for using a coupon. Hard to beat that. |
well, not really. if its 30,000 6 packs, then that 180,000 mags... meaning there will be a never ending supply of mags for quite a while. however, if its 30.000 mags... thats only 5,000 6 packs... which means they will be drying up soon. thats not that many in perspective... or, 2500 12 packs. if 63 people in each free state(i used the number 40) buy at least 1 12 pack, they are done. now... we know that some people dont just buy one, but multiple. so you can also see that it would take even less then that. |
You are joking right? |

Received 24 more on Wed. Again in better shape than I have received in past (no ugly mags). I received: 1 - Bosnian 2-rib (unissued - best I have received) 6 - Chinese spineless 3 - Chinese all-stamped 4 YUgo round hole (all VG) 10 - E/E - including 2 that appear to be unissued Egyptian, one mag with "E" in double circle, and one mag with "10" in double circle. Two of the Chinese Spineless mags had wrong followers - one had a Yugo BHO, and other had an E/E follower. Curious if anyone else has noticed what are considered Bulgarian proof stampings, "E" and "10" in double circle, on mag bodies that don't fit the accepted Bulgarian pattern. These are first pattern rib bodies, like Hungaran mags, in which the stamping pattern at the rear of the mag does not stop short of the reinforcing plate welded to to the feed lips. I am now convinced that Bulgaria made two patterns of steel ribbed mags!!!! I am collecting these mags and preparing to prove my case. Has anyone touched on this subject before? Tom |

got my 12 today... dunno what they are yet LOl ,,im gettin my AK this weekend LOL. anyway.. lil discrip of each. 1- 2 rib,,well used but works 2- that i think are eygptian.. one like new. other no paint,, blued almost and well worn. almost looks like a fake movie prop! 2- that look lik eyugo bolt hold opens.. but have no rib on the back,, and have names carved in them with rust that looks like they were splattered with acid. 2-3 more that have no rib on the back. the rest look like almost new yugo bolt hold deals. one has so much cosmo i gave up till i can soak it over night but looks un issued. havent seen any stamps/proofs. where do i look for those! ill get pics soon. |

Your mags without spine on back are almost certainly Chinese. If they have BHO followers they have probably had Yugo followers put in them. To ckean mags I put in oven at 225 degrees for 15 minutes and then wipe off. Some really heavily caked ones might need to be done twice. Factory stampings are usually on the side of the rear spine. |
I have gotten several with really nice bluing (I don't know why you'd blue a military mag ) but they are attractive on that aspect, with large capital letters like MBZ on the rib. Does anybody know how to tell an E.German from a Bulgarian from a Romy? The humpback mags are Chinese, I'm pretty sure. Drop them into a bucket of diesel fuel. In a couple of days they'll brush clean. Orange clean or citrus cleaner will remove the diesel. It is easy on the pained ones and will soften up the cosmo and the wax. Diesel is also easier on the hands! I'm still convinced some of these were dipped in wax. BTW: Jaak, I formally apologize for quarreling in the other post |
The 2 on the bottom right are Egyptian or Russian. bottom from right Chinese, Yugo, Chinese, Yugo, Of course the 2 rib. Top ones are dark but look like Yugo to me. (the far right may be Chinese) |
yeah ive got two flat back style that are chinese i belive. the two "russian/egypt" ones the two "carved/named" mags yugos the two rib ?? yugo/bos? rest have bolt hold open like the yugos. just trying to figure out what i have.. thinking of tradeing out in the EE for plain jane EG/euro no bolt hold open mags or such....i need shooters not collecting here. thanks for the help. |

I soaked mine in an ammo can with about 4 inches of Hoppes #9. Would soak one while I wiped another down. Worked real well. Did 12 in about 2 hours. Then sprayed them down with WD40 and let them sit overnight. Wiped them down again, and put them in the safe. The 20 round Hungarian mags I have gotten from SG and Wideners lately were very clean, with almost no cosmoline, and NO rust. The mags that looked like they were splattered with acid were probably spattered with someones blood. Blood will eat up almost any finish. |

I received my dozen yesterday. 1 russian steel 4 chinese flat back(one near new) 1 chinese stamped 2 yugo with triangle holes 2 yugo or iraqi with circle holes(one parked & one is blued) 2 random euro mags One of the euro mags has an O stamped into the spine near the bottom. The other euro mag has multiple letters stamped into it. An O on one side about 1/3 way down, and on the other side it has multiple letters spaced far apart: There is an M, what looks like a G, D, J, A. In that order. The letters are 1/3" or so spaced apart, near the middle. All in all I'm pretty happy. One has a dinged base plate, and one of the euro's is rusted and beat up, but all work ok. I'll definitely place another order in the future. |
|
Bet your mag with an "O" low on the spine is a Romanian. Usually blued finish. The other mag with a series of letters is probably an East German. These are very well made blued mags. The letters are just random inspector marks, and vary from mag to mag. The letters are block capital. Where is the factory mark on your Russian - side of body, back of body, or side of rib? Tom |
On the right side of the rib. It's an E with two circles around it. |
I have several bloody mags, this one is the worst ![]() |

I just love magazines! Steel mags I have received in the past get a pretty thorough cleaning. I soak them 4-5 at a time in paint thinner or naptha. Then I disassemble each one, and wipe them down clean. I clean inside the mag bodies particularly well. Once they are fully dry, I wipe everything, inside and out, with thin oil (like 3-in-1). Spring too. I am able to judge their function by the way the followers come out and go back in. I know, it sounds like a lot of work to a lazy-type individual, but I am anal, and I like being that way. I find spending a few hours to clean mags to be "good time." If you are doing the oven-only heat method, I would fully function each one by bottoming out the follower several times, just to make sure it doesn't stick or hang up anywhere. |
| Just got my order from SG,and box was open missing 1 six pack but they are going to replace it. Went thru other 7 bags and got a Russian slab and a tula bakalite, need to get cosmo off before IDing the rest, look like mostly russian and yugo's,and maybe some odd 1's look like Sino type follower. Man this is worse than playing the lottery! |

I wish I had known about free shipping a few days ago, I used a $10 off coupon and shipping was $12.99 for an $80 order. |
Can multiple coupons be used at once? Could I use free shipping and $10 off? Also, they said that they will give me two $10 off coupons if I join the savings club, could I use those and the free shipping? |
No. But if you join you get free shipping on that order and can use a $10.00 off coupon posted here, also. |
It wouldn't give me free shipping on that order. But I figured its only $10 savings that I didn't get so I went ahead and placed my order anyway. I still saved a good amount of money. |

I received the second dozen today. A LOT more cosmoline than before. Different tally too: 1 of the strange two ribs 2 chinese all stamped 5 round hole yugo or iraqi 1 triangle yugo 3 eastern european. One of the round hole yugo's has someones intials carved into it, and one of the euro mags is dented pretty good on the backside, so the follower gets stuck 1/3 of the way down. I'm going to see if SG will exchange just the one, or maybe a half dozen if they require that many. If they want a full dozen returned I'll deal with a scrap magazine, because out of the 24 mags that I've bought, only 4 are poor enough where I won't use them. 3 have bad finish and the dented one. |
they will take just one or two back... ive done it before. i got about 7 that were completely trashed in my replacement set... so im yet again going to have to send them back. im asking for money back this time since they insist on sending me damaged opened mags time and time again |
You bought surplus mags used in a war. They are not going to exchange mags because of finish and you shouldn't even expect it at that price. The dented one you can lock a box end wrench in a vise and insert the mag over the wrench and turn it to push the dent out if it is on the sides.
