I have what looks like a golden opportunity to buy a Norinco 7.62x39 underfolder for about $650.  It has an underfolder stock and a threaded barrel with an AK-74 style brake on it.  I did a quick Google search on the gun, and started running into posts on other boards about the Norinco Mak-90 underfolders being illegal because of the lack of U.S. made parts, and that they were "accidently" allowed into the U.S. back in the early 90's I think.  Am I making a mistake trying to purchase this gun, or is all of that stuff untrue.  I live in Georgia where "assault weapons" are not illegal like some of our communist states.  Is this a good deal?

Here is a pic of the left side of the receiver showing the importer, if that helps:

Does it say MAK-90 or have "sporter" "SP" or any other designation on the trunnion or receiver? Yes.

It is a post 1989 imported rifle and would need to have US parts installed to be in a configuration other than thumbhole stocked.  It could still be in its present underfolder configuration legally with the installation of 6 required US parts.  Is it worth the money being asked?  Depends on the condition and it you feel it is worth that much.

I can't really tell by the picture but something looks odd about the receiver at the area where the underfolder is installed.

Was this built on the Chinese underfolder ready receiver or did someone drill the receiver and mount the underfolder themself?  Some of the thumbhole imported rifles had the underfolder holes already on the receiver covered by a plate or rivet and had a plate welded at the rear of the receiver.  What is this one?

Here's a couple more close-ups.

I don't know much about this gun other than it has changed hands a couple of times and was sold by a pawn shop 2 years ago.

that rifle isn't worth $650. it is crudely put together and in about good condition. plus to make it compliant would be even more $

It is definitely a post '89 MAK. It looks like that is a US made 74 style brake and I am guessing the PG is US made also.

Something does not look right with the rec. at the bottom by the u/f stock. It does appear to be a u/f rec, but something just does not look right.

I would say $450 - $500 tops for that rifle if you really want it.

I would also ditch the cleaning rod, it's not being held in place by anything but the lower HG.

Looks like someone was welding on the receiver.

I decided to wait on a better opportunity.  Thanks for all of the input in helping me make a decision.  You guys are great.

I,d like to see the rear buttstock block/tang of that receiver. My guess is that it has been grinded down or off and spot painted and therefore looking quite odd as well.

it says "SPORTER" on the receiver, thats an illegal firearm unless it has US parts...
