Okay, I have a WASR-10.  I've had it for a month or so and put about 300 rounds through her and had lots of fun doing it.  Never had a problem with it and considering this is my first rifle I think it has good shot groupings.  I've sanded down and finished the wood furniture and polished up the bolt carrier.

I'm thinking about adding some type of optic to it.  I don't want/need anything crazy, fancy, or exspensive.  I would like one that still allows me to use the iron sights.  What choices do I have?  The only purpose of this gun is to have fun shooting.  I don't need a sniper rifle...

Rifles/Optics are all new to me...

Thanks!

Depends a bit on 'fun', blasting fast, paper punching, short/long range...

Hard to beat the $90 PSO4x24.

I know it may be a little expensive, but listen.

Buy a MTK-83 high mount side rail -to- picatinny mount.  And buy an Eotech 511.A65 sight.

the mount is $35-40 and the sight can be had for as little as $285.

I know you'll have almost as much in your sighting system as the gun, but it is worth it.

Your Ak will literally be 10 times as fun to shoot!  You'll be amazed how quick you can get on target and you'll be amazed how deadly it will make you.  It transforms the shooting expience into a video game.  But the shit will really be exploding when you hit it!

And the MTK-83 will allow free use of the iron sights.  But you'll never use them again this sight is so good and fun.

I've got a SAR-1 with this sighting system and I will swear it is the ultimate battle weapon.

And a red dot may make you happier; depends on your shooting habits.

The only AK optic that I'm aware of that allows simultaneous use of the irons is the PK-AS. It sits low/left so the irons are unobstructed. The PK-AS is rugged, reliable, doesn't need batteries for daytime use and has an excellent dot/circle reticle for CQB snapshots & precision aiming. You can check it out at Freedom Opitics or at Tantal's website.

If you want a "scope" get a POSP 4x24 several on sale here in the forums. If you are looking for a red dot thers plenty of them. I want  PK-AS for my AK. Trying to find one here in the forums with no luck. lol

PS: I think the POSP is a great optic, very clear, I shot one and they are a perfect fit for any AK!

I am one of those guys selling his POSP 4x24mm in the EE.

I LOVE the scope and think it is a great addition to an AK. I just sold my AK though to fund other projects so I dont need it anymore.

The POSP can be used with iron sights extremely easily. In fact I wrote up a review of it in the Optics section of the AK board. I was able to use my irons for 50yds. and closer and had the scope sighted in for 100yds.

PK-AV

Got mine used for $110, new they're $140 from freedom optics. Lets you use the iron sights. Its a red dot, so no magnification (and you can use it with both eyes open), but yesterday from 60-70 yards, with a rest, i shot a group under an inch. Very fast compared to irons (theres nothing to line up) and it seems very rugged.

Edit: The PK-AV is pretty much as cheap as you can go for an integrated mount and red dot. A cheaper way would be an AK to weaver mount (high), then a cheap red dot. Either way, if its just for fun, i'd say go with a red dot. If you're just having fun blowing stuff up relatively close, its the way to go.

Tantal is the man to see about Russian optics.
You can't go wrong with him.

Okay, so the PSO 4x24 looks good.  It will fit my WASR-10?  Every site I find it on mentions the SAR-1 but not the WASR-10.  The side mount looks the same...

Will it work?

Yes, it will work fine.

Only SVD's and other sniper rifles will not fit.

Only a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse would put a "scope" on an AK-47.

Some of us aren't as young as some of the new kids on this board and our vision isn't as good as it once was.  I could still probably out-shoot some of the new people though.
