| Am I correct in thinking that the minimum overall legal length of a rifle is supposed to be 26 inches folded? The AMD-65 appears to only be 25 inches even with the Tapco extension, if using the original wire folder. Does this mean it has to be fixed open? |

No, that is not correct. The overall length is measured with the stock open. From the Code of Federal Register (specifically 27 CFR 179.11) a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/04nov20031500/edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2001/aprqtr/27cfr179.11.htm "The overall length of a weapon made from a shotgun or rifle is the distance between the extreme ends of the weapon measured along a line parallel to the center line of the bore." This means that the rifle is measured for overall length with the stock open. With the stock folded, the rifle is NOT at it's extreme length. In Michigan (and possibly other locations) there are state or local laws that specify that the overall length is measured with the stock folded/collapsed. www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1591_4654-10953--,00.html |
