I'm a complete novice, just a shooter. I was looking at VLTOR PKM recievers and these Hungarian PKM parts kit .

Can anyone shine anymore light onto building one.

Good luck finding info on this. I have been interested in the same thing for some time but apparently not many folks outside "the industry" have taken on a home pkm project yet. Military Gun Supply and Vltor are about the complete semi auto sources i've found and I doubt they would be willing to tell you how to go about it step by step. There is a bit more info over on the akforum.net site. I've been told that several reputable main stream AK builders will not touch a PKM build. Also, i would imagine that US parts would be a problem. There is also some welding involved in the build I believe, not just riveting. Personally, I decided against getting the kit at this point even if they do go up in price in the future: there is just not enough info out there to satisfy me and convince me that I could do the build. Its alot more invested should you make a major mistake on a $2,000+ PKM build than on an AK build one tenth the cost. If there was a good quality step by step how-to along the lines of those for the AK series, I would do it in a second.

There is a guy over at Gunco.net that is building one and has pics of his build so far (it is still not complete) but looks beautiful so far. Its actually looks like a museum piece rathr than a home build. It is an advanced build at the least and probably $3000.00+ to finish it right. Not long ago, they were selling new kits with spare barrels, bipod, tripods and loads of accessories for $1850.00. Still to rich for me!
